Hello, I need to find a good (and really cheap!) way to host some large files for a web-connected application that I'm working on. The files will need to be downloaded fairly often, and transfer rate is not critical.
I have been looking at some of those probably "too good to be true" "unlimited" hosting packages that don't specify any guaranteed transfer rate, and I was wondering if any of these plans actually provided decent hosting for around $20 per month and under.
Perhaps you should look into getting a remote storage account instead. Most shared providers won't allow you to host large files if they're not going to appear or be a part of your website and it's usually stated within the TOS or AUP.
Hah! Yeah, hit one of those unlimited web hosts up and use the crap out of it. I'm betting you won't stay on there very long though For your first 6 months, you likely wont get any high volume of traffic unless you a gun-ho about promoting your site. You should be fine on a standard shared hosting plan until then.
Every host in this forum should fit the bid...just keep looking.
