Smile Recommend A Windows 2003 VPS Backup SQL 2005 Sever

    Hello everybody,

I am looking for a recommendation for a VPS Windows 2003 server. Want a company that is reliable and has a good reputation. Basically, we need this for a backup of our SQL 2005 database, it will become the primary when our main server is down. Don't need any control panels or other junk, just a fresh install of Windows 2003 and root access, I can take it from there.

Willing to pay up to $75 per month. I think 512mb of RAM or more should be enough. Thanks much!!!

Your budget can get your more than a Windows VPS with 512RAM. Are you looking for a specific type of virtualization?

    PhotonVPS-

No particular type, would like a 64bit system though, other than that, doesn't matter. Again this is just for backup. Thanks.

Does it necessarily have to be a Windows 2003 vps? Windows 2008 R2 (64bit by default) seems pretty reliable.

Or else you can look into a sync backup solution, perhaps getdropbox.com will work.

For $75 / month, you will be able to get a VPS with 1GB dedicated RAM. Also, I'd recommend Hyper-V since it provides increased performance, better level of isolation and dedicated RAM. Also, I will recommend you to stay on 32 bit unless you are looking to use more than 4GB RAM since there will be no significant importance of 64 bit vs. 32 bit with you are running VPS with around 1-2 GB RAM. Also, you will get more compatibility of various software on 32 bit OS compared to 64 bit.

I also recommend Hyper-V for the same reasons.

You can actually get a Hyper-V VPS with 1 GB for under $50 now. Prices have come down significantly as more hosts adopt the new technology.
