What do you HATE about this business?

    Hey every one,

I am curious to see what people HATE most about the web hosting business or what people would CHANGE about the web hosting business, if they could.

How do you think, it could be better?

    Thanks,

I hate hackers and people who claim to sell unlimited disk space. Although I hate the second, I will respect their decision to market that way, but I hate seeing customers disappointed when they don't get what was sold to them.

I hate those also. I also hate it when people host phishing sites and send emails to scam people.

I think most peoples hate poor customer service provider by the webhosting companies as they are expecting for kinds of returns for their investment.

I personally don't like people who offer you the moon and stars with their hosting packages, but really they couldn't give you a pebble. Poor customer service is very annoying too. It's no fun speaking to someone who barely speaks English when I'm trying to set something up.

Kids ripping your content.. I wouldn't say I hate it, rather flattering..but makes you cringe when you see it. I know it's 'easy peasy' copying another persons content, plan names & offerings, but come on - Have some imagination!

I agree with LaptopFreak on the troublemakers...

The one thing I hate the most is:

When you provide a customer flawless service for 2 years + and as soon as they experience a few hours of downtime they start flipping out and posting bad reviews of your service everywhere they can.

This service is like one of the most thankless jobs ever. I mean yes, you get happy people when you are up and running, but as soon as you run into problems they are ready to slit your throat.

I would say when clients don't read the terms of service and get upset when I have to enforce them, those are never fun conversations.

It's over-crowded, I think we need to try and push out the kiddys who are in it for a month or two and then realize they have school to attend or the adults who setup for the purpose of the quick buck and not actually to deploy services or supply much support.

People who start like 5 or 6 "companies" one after the other, the so-called company lasts only a few months only to get sold on or fail.

The thing is whilst everybody hates scammers, hackers, DDOS etc they are also needed to keep everything in equilibrium. yes they cause a hell of a lot of inconvenience - if they didnt exist then there would be no threats. Threats and risk are what make business grow (provided they are the right risks).

I guess if you were a security expert/programmer, then you would love hackers/DDOS'ers, but for web hosting companies, they are a pain in the ass.

    My top 3:

#3) Script kiddies checking doorknobs to see if anything will open, and hackers pounding away while safely hidden behind a chain of proxies.

#2) Customers who sign up for service over the phone with a live representative, let their credit card get auto-billed for years at the exact same $amount monthly, then suddenly initiate a chargeback with their bank for "unknown charge"-- even while their website is still active.

#1) Customers who gladly pay their mechanic $125/hr or their lawn service $80/hr ($80/month for 4 cuts that take less than 15 minutes each), yet scream bloody murder when we bill them $75 for custom modifications to a complex CRM application, or $25 for labor to recover their server from backups after they blow it up. They think everything on the web should be free, and the time of a college educated programmer or experienced systems administrator is worth $ZERO.

Personally I dislike the companies that offer unlimited hosting. This infeasible strategy makes people think that they can get the world for pennies, which makes it harder on hosts which offer reasonable caps on their services as these clients then ask "Why don't you offer unlimited?".

Also I dislike the trouble makers, they're never good fun.
