I'm getting FiOS on Monday to replace my old internet (Comcast) and they provide a crappy Actiontec (or whatever it's called ) router. However, I can't get rid of it because it is required to use the FiOS TV service.
I have a Linksys Wireless-N RangeMax router. I need to configure it to work with the FiOS router.
Does this mean I do the following steps (as to not mess up FiOS TV which runs via. the ethernet from the wall to the FiOS-provided router)? I believe so:
1) Disable Wireless Broadcasting on the FiOS router
2) Turn of Wifi on the laptop I am using, connect directly via. Ethernet the Linksys router and go to config, disable DHCP on the Linksys.
3) Connect the Linksys Ethernet to one of the 4 ethernet pots on the FiOS router.
I would think you need to disable the Wireless Radio Broadcast and DHCP on the FIOS router then to assign your Linksys router a static ip and enable DHCP on it.
Also make sure you have the IP range right If the fios router is 192.168.1.xxx change it to like 192.168.2.xxx or else they may conflict with each other.
Figured it out - I'll need to make the FiOS router a bridge - that does involve changing some settings but I do have to disable Wireless Broadcast because the FiOS router shouldn't broadcast anything - the DHCP will remain on on both.
