Thread: Host Required

    Host Required

    Hi all,

I am looking for a host with Unlimited Disk Space & Unlimited bandwidth to host Images (ISO) of the Ubuntu Operating system and also be a commercial website selling computers with Ubuntu Pre-Installed. I am currently with HostPappa and they don't seem to clever.

I am looking for a cheapish host as I am just starting off. I was looking at JustHost?

    Any Ideas?

    Cheers Guys!
    Dan

Expect about 20 people by the end of the day to tell you not to do unlimited... The way I see it is, it's free... if it doesn't work out, atleast you didn't lose anything

If you host an ISO mirror for a major Linux distribution on an "unlimited" plan you're very quickly going to find out how limited it really is.

My advice is that if you *really* want to do this, to get a dedicated server but being that you want to do this "cheapish" I would think that's quite a bit out of your budget.

    Good luck.

You will get enough reviews regarding JustHost if you want to research on them.

I'm sure that "unmetered" won't last long when the ISO mirror is getting hammered

Do they still have that? If so it wouldn't hurt to go with them if it's free.

That was quite funny to read, made me laugh at least .

Well, it would be a good experience for you to sign up with any unlimited provider and host an ISO on there of Ubuntu. Make sure you only sign up for a month to minimise losses, then come back when they ban you.

Care to explain more about that?

host Images (ISO) of the Ubuntu Operating system
While some unlimited hosts may allow you to use several TBs of data transfer, it may be safer and overall better to go for a file hosting service (e.g. rapidshare, megaupload)

There is no such thing a unlimited, you can get unmetered with a speed restriction but not unlimited, its just a marketing way to get clients.

and should you find a 100% unlimited host... send me a email will save a shed load in my running costs

Stay away from "unlimited" and "unmeterd" hosts, as they oversell, and, you will never ever need that much space

Unlimited hosts won't cover hosting ISO's on their servers most likely. You'll have to talk to some hosts and find someone who's willing to do it.

Even though I suggest staying away from unlimited or at least most of the time, if you want something reliable www.hostrocket.com is what I started with and had not many issues in the two years I was with them.

Yeah I wouldn't recommend that you go with any company which offer unlimited hosting packages. I work in a IT company and know this kind of tricks. There is nothing unlimited in the world. It's better to look for a hosting company with good pricing and customers' ratings.
