Cpanel Question

Hi everyone,

i am in the process of buying a VPS with Cpanel installed. 1 of my friends was discussing buying 1/4 of the space and bandwidth off of me, and he uses it for a reseller.

now for my question: can i assign it so that he has his own area and can use the space (with me limiting it as needed) and set up more than 1 account on that area, so that his clients can then login seperately?

Basically turning my VPS into 4 reseller accounts, with each having their own login area able to allow each account to setup accounts for their customers.

Sorry if ive overconfused it, any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Reaper

Yes, you can typically use a VPS to set up reseller accounts. Set up a regular account, then add reseller privileges through WHM. Make sure to set reasonable limits on the resellers, and bear in mind that the VPS has limits that will affect how well the reseller accounts work.

Remember that for cPanel to run on a VPS you require 512+ Ram. Should be shown in registering your VPS the same.

I think what Sean is trying to say is that for cpanel to run comfortably on a vps you are going to need 512mb + ram .

The vps optimized version does seem to run suprizingly well on lower spec'd machines

Our Billing Server with cPanel:

PHP Code:
total       used       free     shared    buffers     cached
Mem
:           512        499         12          0         34        295
-/+ buffers/cache:        169        342
Swap

You can fit cPanel on a 256mb VPS - Optimisation is your friend

It'll run on that, but I'd hate for the VPS to be doing much more than just sitting there and looking good with 350mb RAM running cPanel

The one i am looking at is:

23GB Disc Space
200GB Monthly Bandwidth
384MB Guaranteed RAM
512MB Burstable RAM

So i am intending to split it into 3 or 4 sections, selling off resellers at:

5gb space, 50gb bandwidth.

not 100% sure what sort of price this should be.

Are you looking for a managed or un-managed service? If you're not very sure, I recommend you go for a managed provider.

The prices will depend on which provide you choose and if you want it managed or not.

It will be unmanaged. The only control panel ive used, is Hearts. ExtendCP or something.

Found it fairly easy to use, but just checking.

Would it be worth me spending the extra money for it to be 512mb and abit extra space and bandwidth?

I would spend the extra money on the RAM. Only get the extra space and bandwidth if you need it.

You could probably find a good provider with that price for $30-$40, with cPanel and unmanaged.

Either will run cpanel just fine as long as the server isn't oversold considering that you are relying on burstable ram. You might want to find a vps where the burstable ram is guaranteed ram with those same specs so your vps doesn't degrade over time.
