Tired of ThePlanet AS! Looking for new server management company!
We have tryed EZSM (easyservermanagement), FastServerManagement (now PSM) and Touchsupport/ThePlanet AS.
We were quite happy with the services at touch until they sold the department we were located in to theplanet.
They do a good job at theplanet AS, but it is the time they use on the tickets, and all the hours we have to wait before they even take a look at our tickets that is really frustrating. Also their monitoring service is ****! we have told them many times, but they never do anything about it.
This year have been the worst year ever because of theplanet as are to slow and their monitoring services.....we have lost a LOT of customers this year and now we are just fed up!
PSM and EZSM we moved from because of bad skilles, but i'm not sure they have improved so we're scared to try them again.
This is what we have and what we need:
cPanel and CentOS, and around 20 servers atm.
we need:
- fast answers
- a monitoring service that works, and when something is down it has top priority!
- avalible on msn/aim would be great
- calls DC when remote reboot don't work or hardware failure.
- weekly security audits
- installation of 3rd party software
and everything else a full package would cover and some great prices.
Does anyone also know if touchsupport is back up again? read that in another thread in this forum.

It was mentioned on this forum that touchsupport are a different company (or maybe the same as the old) however they are not the same as ThePlanet anymore, so I would assume ThePlanet simply purchased them for their customer base or staff for whatever reason.
You should list your budget as this is likely the reason you are having difficult finding good management providers. If you are only willing to pay a few dollars per month for management of a system then you should expect to receive a service of this value.
If I where you I would list some of the common issues you are contacting them over/experiencing and ask your potential provider what they would do given the same situation.Server Management - AdminGeekZ.com

I would advice you to search through the server management companies listed in the WHT wiki link and select the one that meets your requirements. Also do a google search for Server Management or Proactive Server Management plans to get the list of companies that offers similar plans and to know their reviews.

Move back to Touch Support. They're back in action and have nothing to do with The Planet anymore. Many of the mangers and admins are back there too.

Yes, I found the thread where TouchSupport wrote they were back in november 2008 independent from ThePlanet.
But we also experienced some problems with TouchSupport so we're looking around and will see what other people are writing about other companys.
We have in avarage 1 ticket per day for about 20 servers, and the tickets lately have been apache/mysql problems and when the servers been down and ThePlanet used many hours just to respond or get it back up again.
Our budget is about 50-100 dollar pr. server pr.month. Didn't see alot of prices on your website though.

1 ticket per day from 20 servers means that your server is very stable, good.
The price that you have in mind for server management also seems to be decent. Just do a bit of research on WHT and Google before going with a company. I am sure that with this budget in place you can go with the best. Best of luck for your search. Do check the Wiki link that I have listed in my previous post.Blessen Cherian

sailor: outsourced is ok....
rodney: read this thread: search for touchsupport, cannot add links in this reply.
rodney: what service management company do you use and have experience with?
blessen: well, stable yes, but always a server having problems and theplanet aren't really fast fixing it or getting the server back up again. But we will do some research before we chose another company.....
I really miss some good reviews from other hosting companys though. It seems like the same users always makes the same good post on the same company's all the time, and that makes me worrie!

You are looking to spend $50 to $100 USD per server per month and that includes full management with weekly audits?? I don't know, but I'd say you are asking for trouble.

Ah, if that's the case, then that's a good start. I thought that was his total budget.

Administration support for most companies start from 70-80 USD ofcourse apart from PSM. Since you are low on tickets, 100 USD/server /month is a good price to start with and you could get a trial of 5-7 days if support companies you contact are ready to put themselves on a test period.

If you used PSM when they were Fastservermanagement, then that was years ago, and they improved a lot since then.
But considering you need phone/aim contact and proactive support, you should expect to pay a lot more and go with a company like AdminGeekZFully customized hosting to your specific needs, no general plans found here!

Let me see. Most of your needs are covered by all the server management companies on this site. Only the 3rd party SW installation and support are not as widespread and prevalent as you might think. Especially if you're looking for "some great prices"
You might want to specify the 3rd party SW you're looking support for (e.g. I bet that no one on this site can support SAP ). Maybe someone can suggest you a cheap company that supports the exact niche of your appLast edited by CoolKoon; 08-25-2009 at 05:12 PM.

Hello Floffy - reading your comments makes me cringe a little bit. I understand exactly what you are talking about. Honestly, you are beyound the point of a larger 3rd party management company. You really should be looking for maybe a niche, smaller, 3rd part management company - or really - a fully managed dedicated server provider. Think rackspace, etc.. (plenty of good, fully managed providers).. you will be looking at $400 and up per server for the service - but, it will include proactive monitoring and response (ie before you submit a ticket), backups included, etc, etc, etc.. (and maybe theplanet offers this directly, I am not sure)
Depends on which route you go, but, on that scale - if you find the right managed hosting provider, your total cost of ownership will be less and likely your overall level of service and support will be higher...Last edited by cartika-andrew; 08-30-2009 at 09:18 PM.

we still have a ticket open with them and that's 24 hours ago and still no answers. I have been in contact with the live chat also on theplanet, but that is just no point at all!
I have asked for a refund but don't get any answers from advanced services or their supervisor in any way

they answerd the ticket some days later with nothing that had anything to do with our ticket.
And I haven't gotten any answers from the manager who told us we could just send him an email if there where any more problems.
He answerd one time that he had to get back to me because of some meetings, and that's about 10 days ago :-(
So in my OPINION: SAY THE HELL AWAY FROM THE PLANET ADVANCED SERVICES !
