I believe your charged the ICANN fee and that's it, not really sure though.

So I would assume $0.20 a domain, although getting ICANN accredited is a long and tedious process.
Not sure what to put here :-P

Verisign is the company who managed the registration of .net/.com domains.

ICANN gets a share of 0.20 cents per domains from the respective registeries.

    .com | .net | .tv | .jobs | .cc | .name

The variable cost attributable to ICANN Accredited Registrars can be categorized as follows:
    .Com $6.00
    .Net $4.25
    .Org $6.00
    .Info $5.75
    .Biz $5.30

All prices are per domain per year.

There are registry (Verisign) fees and ICANN fees.

    http://www.verisign.com/press_releas...ge_043470.html

"VeriSign, Inc. (NASDAQ: VRSN), the leading provider of Internet infrastructure for the networked world, today announced, effective as of October 1, 2008, an increase in registry domain name fees for .com and .net, per its agreements with ICANN.
VeriSign announced that the registry fee for .com domain names will increase from $6.42 to $6.86 and that the registry fee for .net domain names will increase, from $3.85 to $4.23."

    http://www.icann.org/en/announcement...nt-09jul07.htm

"Transaction fees, which are paid to ICANN for each domain name registered, were set at US$0.25 per year per registration. The fees were cut to US$0.22 last year and this reduction negotiated for the 2007-08 budget pegs it at US$0.20."

If you are filthy rich, you can become a ICANN accredited registrar. I would go with a domain reseller instead.

You can be one if you have about 1000-5000 domains for a start.

ICANN doesn't sell any domains, it merely charges a $0.20 fee per domain registered. It's the registry selling them. The registry for .com and .net is VeriSign.

I would expect someone with 10K-20K to get ICANN accredited instead.

    Cost Price:

    .COM: 6.86 + 0.2 = 7.06
    .NET: 4.98 + 0.2 = 5.18
    .ORG: 6.77 + 0.2 = 6.97

This information is at least 2 years old, correct information is

    Domains Pricing
    COM $ 7.06
    NET $ 5.18
    ORG $ 6.95
    INFO $ 6.95
    BIZ $ 6.42
    NAME $ 6.20

This was published by resellerclub on 12th March, at that time icann fee was 20 cents, today it's 18 cents, so, deduct 2 cents from previous pricing.
.biz is incorrect, the price was risen a few months ago, i'm unsure on the amount

Not strictly 100% correct, the price decrease is only if you sign the new RAA released last month.

Those that have signed it, now 18 cents, and a new 5 year RAA contract, those that havent as yet, still 20cents.
