Crossing the pond will always result in longer ping times. What do you expect? It's not a Cogent problem but a physics problem that cannot be solved regardless of the host you used. My guess is only 5-10ms of that is Cogent's fault at most.

The problem I have is that the members of my sites are based everywhere :/
I have some in Europe, majority in USA, and therefore Tampa was the only place where it would satisfy both.
UK hosting is quite expensiveShamil Nunhuck, - Radon Systems Limited

Judging for who? If a lot of the clients are in Europe, then Dallas would not be the best location. You would want something in the Northeast.
As everyone else had said, the size of the port is not relevant in most cases for speed. The size just lets you have more capacity. If your not using over 100mbit then there is no reason to have a 1000mbit port.

I'm referencing to worldwide connectivity. Ex. Similar speeds for people in Japan, and U.K. or People in Canada or South America.

I would move the server to NY (area) to get better europe latency and good to US.
That would be your best place to be, good for US and good for Europe.

I also recommend Washington DC. There are some Atlantic hops from there to the UK.

This looks more like a case of incorrect router naming or an asymmetric route. You're getting from London to NYC (jfk02) in about 80ms, which is a normal time. While the need to pass through so many cities on the way down to Tampa may slow things down a bit, the overall ping time is very reasonable.
If most of your customers are in Europe and the USA, good places to host from would be New York or Ashburn (near Washington DC).Last edited by bqinternet; 08-24-2009 at 10:09 PM.
