UK Colocation - suggestions please!
Hello members,
I'm soon going to purchasing a rack server from Dell, and have been looking into the options of basing it within the UK, as it seems best.
I've looked into the Rapid switch data centre in Berkshire, aswell as Blue square in Maidenhead.
Wondering - does any one have any further suggestions?

OpenHosting, who I think Chris Byrd is with, not sure if IceColo is part of the same company, but whatever, they get my thumbs up

Hello,
I'm looking at the DELL™ PowerEdge™ R300 (SV3R300)
With the following customisations:
Intel Quad Core 2.5 GHz
12 GB Ram
2 x 1TB HDD with Raid (debating what level of RAID)
Im based in Teesside, however I can get pretty much anywhere within the UK Mainland.

Hi Tim
I have used BSQ and can say that there Remote hands are great (if you get direct access to that facility)
I also use openhosting's new facility in Manchester, which is just as good and closer for me to get to in case I need to.
Hope that helps

I'm in contact with Openhosting at the minute. Very good sales advice.
I'll ring up rapid switch later on have a chat with them.
Thanks for your recommendation folks!

I'll be going with these guys. Excellent sales advice and I don't think I'll get anywhere else with such good service.

I would recommend going for the datacenter/co-location provider nearest to you.

BlueSquare is alright, but in my opinion it has gotten a little hot in there over the past years - it's been quite noticable that they are getting fuller without necessarily having sufficient cooling to handle it.. just by watching long term monitoring of for an example harddrive temperatures across multiple servers / racks. I've also experienced a number of outages due to power issues, fiber breakage and so on - although it's been a while since the last now.
Gyron are very good and professional, but you might have to pay accordingly as well. They have a new DC called centro just north of london, which is very nicely built.
