Which is more secure - xinetd or standalone daemon?
Should I setup my POP3 server as xinetd or as a standalone daemon. Which is more secure.
I am not expecting heavy traffic.
I am on a Debian VPS (512Mb)
xinetd is just a mode to run your service , so that you could configure it easily.
security depends on the version of the service installed

It's always better to run the pop3 server as a standalone daemon.
For larger userbases running the standalone daemon for POP3 will increase the performance.
Xinetd may have more configuration options than standalone services for poorly configurable services. You can deny, allow IPs etc from there.
