    Need help with Gnome

    Hi,
Have been trying to setup Gnome on my Linux server (CentOS) and am having a few problems. My main one is when I try to initiate 'startx' it comes up with a lot of writing and finishes off by saying

    Fatal server error:
    no screens found

XIO: fatal IO error 104 (Connection reset by peer) on X server ":0.0"
after 0 requests (0 known processed) with 0 events remaining.

This is the command which I presume to be the one to initiate Gnome and VNC.
As I am very new to GUI's and Gnome, would someone please be able to tell me how to do this and to access my server via VNC.

    Thanks

    Hi,
Thanks for your reply. First of all, how do I check the xorg packages are installed and when I run system-config-display it says command not found.

    Thanks for your help!

Make sure that you have installed the system-config-display package.
First search it for #yum search system-config-display. If not you can install it by using yum install system-config-display.

    ERROR

    Hi,

    Comes up with following error:
    [[email protected] ~]# system-config-display
    Couldn't start X server on card 0
Couldn't start X server with old config, trying with a fresh configuration

This happens after installing successfully and then just hangs and does nothing.

    Any ideas?

    Please try

    # system-config-display --reconfig

remember its configuration file should be save after that at this location /etc/X11/xorg.conf

    after above command, type "startx"

    Last question

Is it just as simple as going to port 1 CBC and password redhat. Is there no other setup required even after reboot?
