    Removing Tomcat on Server

    Hi,

I'm working on a friend's server right now, and he tried to install Tomcat and failed miserably (apache wont run, etc)

Is there a way to remove Tomcat (v4) from the server - easily??

    RedHat 7.3
    Cpanel
    Tomcat v4

If you can help, that would be great.

    Thanks!

If Apache doesn't run, then remove the 'tomcat' lines from the httpd.conf. There is no need at all to remove the tomcat installation to get Apache to run again.

And be sure you always make a backup of the httpd.conf before you (or ur friend) do something without knowing what...

Nah, it wasn't me or my server (I know better not to install Tomcat hehe).

I didn't install it - my friend did (as its his server).

He wants it installed on his server (a customer of his wants/needs it for his site).

Just when he installed it, something went wrong and Apache just didn't want to start when rebooted (aka failed).

Would running the install again (from cpanel.net), just overwrite what's already installed??

I don't know why his customer doesn't choice a different language to code and not use JSP... grr... hehe

    Thanks!

I don't see the problem, Tomcat works fine, it's installed on around 6 of my virtual-hosting servers and it works without any problem. Whats that cpanel thing? Is that some admintool?

Just login with telnet/ssh, try to start Apache, if Apache don't start, it will give an errormsg. There is probably plenty of information in this errormsg to edit the httpd.conf (apache config file) to get Apache working again.
