I have tested a few with similar specs, download speeds (200MB file) is about the same for all of them, traceroute do vary a lot though, but is this important ? Do I need a host which is close to my visitors (which are mostly in Europe) ?
Yes i would pick a vps that best suits the location of your users, although some providers have great routing so that dont mean you would need a EU server, just good routing to EU, there's very many and well support as well as routing i would say is very important so make sure you pick a decent provider that has good reviews here, and check out support / live chat Best of luck, i would highly recommend www.xygenhosting.com very nice ppl, very stable etc.

Yeah, wiredtree loads very fast for me, so maybe I should forget about the ping times and just choose the best service for me, but I'm still confused on how to choose, what else should I look for other than good reviews ? I could imagine that RAM is important, what else ? Thanks.
Although ping (latency) is one factor that you should consider I don't think it should have a significant bearing for standard web-hosting. Download speeds to your country will probably be more useful if you plan on serving static files, or video or music streaming etc (and the performance will depend on the network the provider uses to get to your visitors).
You haven't stated exactly what you plan on using your VPS for .. but I'll assume web-hosting:
- RAM will be a big plus, particularly for busy/interactive sites (e.g. PHP/MySQL)
- I/O (hard disks) will important for the same reasons, as inevitably you will need to hit the drives which can be a scarce resource on VPS nodes!
- And of course you need to be comfortable with the level of service and support your receive from the host -- many people will actually place this at the top of their list
But, I think in general the providers you are looking at are solid and should be a good choice. Good luck!
I didn't write these download, but my download speed test are more or less related to the ping speeds, so the lower ping, the faster I can download the files.
I need VPS for hosting multiple sites (around 10 currently), my largest is a vBulletin forum, so I need PHP 5 and MySql 5 without too many restictions, I need at least 5GB but prefer 10GB space, I need 24 hour support (online chat is nice), and I need cPanel, that's about it !
Surely that's important, but I seriously do not think that the usability of your site will suffer from the ping times you showed. My perfect choice would be xen platform, but none of the providers you mentioned offers that - so that's why the ServInt suggestion.
You could see your ping times to 6sync.com as well. They are the only Xen provider that offers managed solutions - that I know of. I have not tested them myself yet, but as I said I trust the platform they are running. The plus side of the Xen is truly isolated VPS environment which is difficult to oversell.
Alright, glad that you found what you are looking for. I've never heard of them, so I could not advice you to go with them. Once you've been with them for a while - come back and write a through review of your experience with them.
