Mom Dies over Halo 3 Video Game

His addiction was so strong, was running rampant in a tired, exhausted young man, that anybody or anything that stood between him playing the video game and not having his way was in peril," Kersey said of Petric's state of mind during the killings.

I do not see why his mom and dad wouldn't allow him to play it. The ESRB rating mature means 17 and up. He does look crazy and probably did need help.

at the bottom it mentions its the games fault though... thats freakin bull. anyways he was playing over 18 hours a day which is horrible.

back to them saying its the games fault. Its not the games fault that there are no lifers that take things way to seriously.... if they jumped off a bridge or something because there friends did or something stupid like that then they should be thrown out of society.

I do not think that the lawyers could of given him a worse sentence. I do think that he must of been crazy or the lawyers were crazy.

I do not think its the games. People mature at different levels. The definition of normal and absurdity can not be defined.

Because the game is crap like most games out today and the parents cared enough to NOT WANT HIM EXPOSED TO IT!!

Stupid idiot! (I hope he has fun playing now)

There's a specific personality disorder that fits in with this boy's case, where he blurs the lines between fantasy and reality. If he had been born 100 years earlier and killed his parents like this after reading Crime and Punishment, people would have blamed Dostoevsky. If he had been born 30 years earlier, people would have blamed D&D. It isn't the manufacturer/publisher's fault, the kid just has some major psychological issues.

I must agree with him the kid does look like he has issue's

What I found disturbing, and actually made the case more believable is the fact that he fled the house WITH the game. I cant think of any person of sound mind doing that. He was obsessed with the game, I mean 18 days playing, Im sure some of which went on well over 36 hours.

I must say though that I think he did get a fair sentence, murder is still murder. What annoys me though is his father standing by his side. He shot you and your wife and you want him to get a light sentence? Sometimes I just do not understand people.

The kid was probably messed up in the head to begin with, just nothing that ever surfaced until his obsession and immersion with the game. Either way, though, he is responsible for his own actions.

That doesn't matter, if you're going to live in your parents home then you are to follow their rules.

This reminds me of MIKEDVB, He never sleeps.

Anyways that's horrible. All due respect it's the persons fault, Can't blame the game or game makers!

If the game was not bought such accidents wouldn't occur :-)

I was like this once. It all started when playing Nintendo's "Duck Hunt"

It got so bad I was shooting ducks on my way to work, my days off, staying up late and shooting ducks, then it went to geese.

It all came to a head when I shot my dog for laughing at me for missing one.

Seriously..... The kid had issues before the game. Funny how this always happens to a preachers kid.. Ever notice that?

This is tragic. However, I don't believe that video games are ever to blame when a deranged teen goes on a killing spree.

    Ever.

    Agree completely!

The issue here shouldn't be if the game caused the murder but that there was a murder! The dude killed his own family.. obviously he had some psychological issues.

This is just absurd. Perhaps they need an equally absurd method of preventing this. Licensing teens to play video games after they've passed several stages of psychological evaluations.... :x

    Unbelievable story!
