I never much liked it, though I used it for a while while WHT had a channel/server. Once they dropped it I never bothered looking for another place. I just don't see the charm in a room full of chatters all shouting to be heard at once...

Not it a long time. I use to quite a bit, infact everyday for a few years, even though it was a small group of friends that were on it.

Nope, I use the standard IM channels. I think I've used IRC like 3 times and wasn't too thrilled with it.

I often use IRC, but its really posessive. Often, you wont be able to do anything else while you're on it, I guess that's why so many people dont like it.

I'd rather lick a tramp than use IRC. It's more pre-historic than Moses' first set of leather flip flops

Not any more. You can't multi-task with IRC the way you can with email and forums.

Something that pisses me off with IM is when people send messages like "hi" followed by "hello" then "Are you there?" with IRC and IM people expect instant answers, its not like I am just sitting here waiting for messages.

Even stupider is the fact that these people who are so desperate to get a response (Curse that "nudge" feature in MSN) if they see me online will never send me an email. I don't get it, they want to make contact but won't send an email. However they will try to contact me every time they see me (well my computer) on MSN until they eventually send a message when I am able to respond.

I don't understand the psychology, they only need to communicate if they will get an instant response?
I could tell you a joke about UDP. But I'm not sure you would get it!

Some people just need a friend to talk to, hehe. I think it also has to do if they have a follow up question. Or maybe they think since they can do live chat, they might as well do it.

I'm on freenode all the time...

Speaking of which, maybe we should have a webhosting talk room on freenode, considering so many of us are on there...
