Before I post here, i did try to search on google as I always do but since I am not sure how to put this question I wasn't able to find the answer.
I manage a video sharing site which is installed on lighttpd, we use mod_flv_streaming module to fast forward the flv streams so people don't have to wait for the file to download before skipping through.
The fun part i noticed is, when ever I play a video i see the file is being downloaded locally(which is natural for flash players) and if i skip the content to downloaded part it rebuffers and start to download again.
This means its not using the downloaded part when skipping its using the mod_flv_streaming when ever a user try to skip. This eats up bandwidth in double as its not necessary to download the file again and gain.
I would like to keep the mod_flv_streaming function at the same time when people skip the video I want it to use the downloaded portion rather re buffering.
I am sure this has to be done on html/website end. If anyone can point me to right direction perhaps i can check it out.
I seen a website which is functioning the way I am talking about so it means its possible but how?
in my further investigation, found out it has to do with the flashplayer. JW flv player works the way i wanted but the one that came with the video sharing script acts differently. I will have to look in to fixing that.
