I am looking into getting a VPS server. i need 40+ gigs of space and 400+ gigs of transfer/mo. the cheapest one that has the best ratings is RootBSD, but i have never used FreeBSD before, is it any different form CentOS? are there any limitations for php scripts?
i was also looking into StartLogic but then i found this page which has 78 reviews that all say it sucks, which kinda turned me off them.
FreeBSD is very similar to Linux for server usage. It is extremely stable, and the ports system makes installing software easy. I you know your way around a command-line in CentOS, you should be able to figure out FreeBSD quickly.
FreeBSD is a bit different then Linux operating systems. You will find it familiar coming from Linux but it has it's differences. You can learn all you need to know about FreeBSD by reading the FreeBSD handbook. I have looked at rootBSD before but I cannot seem to figure out if they are using FreeBSD jails or not.
All the best in your search for a hosting provider.
