    Help comparing...

I hope this is the correct place to ask this. I don't know much of hardware when it comes to comparing processors and servers...

    What hardware is more powerful?

    - Core2Quad Q9300 QUAD CORE 2.5GHZ 1333FSB, with 8GB RAM
    - Dual Xeon 3.40GHz, with 4GB RAM

I have a server with the second (xeon), would like to know if the Core2Quad would be considered an upgrade or downgrade.

    Same question with the:
    - Core2Quad Q8200 QUAD CORE 2.33GHZ 1333FSB, 2GB RAM
    - AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4200+, 2GB RAM
*I currently have the AMD athlon.

It's just that my current processors I see higher Ghz number, but since the others to compare with are quad, I wonder if they might be better as it multiplies by 4...

In both cases it is a large step up, though there is no mention of HDD setup, and the second one seems to be a bit low on RAM.

That's what I imagined, but needed to make sure about it.
As for HDD, in both cases, the newer ones are bigger, but what I worry most about is in processing speed as space is not a problem for my projects.

Perhaps you can put everything on one high-end quad core with better storage, like a SA-SCSI RAID setup and be worry-free when it comes to I/O problems.
