    Forum Ban Control

    Hi,

I run a small support forum using phpBB. The forum doesn't get much traffic, but is necessary for providing support to my clients & customers.

The issue is that now I am starting to get a lot of trash posted on the forum, spam links, porn, etc. I have email verification enabled. I am on the forum several times a day. When trash is posted, I remove the post, delete the user account responsible for the post, and block their email address.

Despite my efforts, this illicit usage of the forum continues to increase. I am contemplating the usage of IP blocking, but I know that this can backfire and blocking legitimate users from accessing the forum, especially when considering dynamic IPs and IP cloaking.

So, I am hoping to get some feedback here as to what are the best practices and policies when it comes to forum ban control and usage security.

Thanks for your input. I appreciate it.

There is a thread on phpbb.com discussing blocking SPAM on phpbb3

    http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewt...f=46&t=1437125

    I personally run this MOD:

    http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewt...?f=69&t=645075

Since installing it, I've had 0 spam users albe to register.

Do not delete the username, Ban it ! When you ban it you ban his IP and he can't register anymore ! but while deleting it .. it has no effect ! Just 3 more minutes of registration to spammer !
