    is skype having issues?

I was talking to someone that wanted to work for me on skype for a position in computer repair.... we could not accept eachothers voice chats or speak.

Is anyone else having issues with skype or is it just me?

Not sure about other's or i cant confirm on my end either as i dont use skype here's a guide that i hope will help you i found it on skype's forum.

    Full audio test

This "manual" is for XP but shall be similar to NT and 2000

    Audio Check:

    1. Audio settings

    V1.1
    Go to
Skype-->File -> Options -->Sound Devices-->USB/Audio device (do not use windows default device)
You can also tick the ring pc speaker check box as this is a good backup to alert you even
if the main speakers are off or turned down.
    V1.2
    Skype-->Tools -> Options -->Sound Devices-->audio device/USB Audio Device(do not use windows default device)
You can also tick the ring pc speaker check box as this is a good backup to alert you even
if the main speakers are off or turned down.
    Skype-->Tools -> Options -->Hand/Headsets-->audio device/USB Audio Device(do not use windows default device)
You can also tick the ring pc speaker check box as this is a good backup to alert you even
if the main speakers are off or turned down.

    Start-->Control panel-->Sound and Audio devices
On the audio tab set the default playback device to your main soundcard(AC97/Audio-chip/add-on-adapter).

    2. Hardware check

Check if your micro (pink) and speaker (lime) jacks are really correct and fully inserted!
    They sometimes stuck.
For test only you can use earphone instead of microphone for Line In.
Standard micro in Line In will NOT work.

    Go to:
    Start
    Programs
    Accessories
    Entertainment or go to
Volume Control; right click on loudspeaker icon in Task Tray
    Options
    Microphone
    Scroll down
    Check "Microphone"
If the bar "Microphone" is available, the microphone is detected by Windows now go on
(If not, Windows has a problem with your microphone)
Just to check if your microphone is broken or bad, you can use your headphones instead. They really work!
    Which one L or R is microphone now, I think it's L
    Check "Advanced properties"
    Check Micro "Advanced"
    Open
Check "20db boost" or "1.MIC boost" depending on language version
Volume level can be left in any position.
    Mute microphone!!!

    3. Check audio now on windows base.
    Start
    Programs
    Accessories
    Entertainment
    Soundrecorder.
If your voice is fine, goto next step

    4. Check Skype mike configuration in:
    config.xml
You need to select "show hidden files" in folder options
    To be found in
    C:
    Documents and Settings
    Your profile name
    Application Data
    Skype
    Skype User name

In CALL you shall find this entry
In line 6 it should look like this
    <MicVolume>255</MicVolume>
255 is max volume - Value "0" and "256" are equal = mike volume OFF
Without understanding this, there had been some users with value 255 was still not correct and reduced to a working level of 250.
So please give this a try as well.
    Save
    Restart Skype

    5. Audio check on Skype base
Check your voice by doing Skype call <<echo123>>
Here you can monitor, record, (mirror) your own voice via VoIP.
