My server was down...Can someone explain?
My server is always going down and it is only brought up by telling my webhost to restart the server as i cant even access SSH.
They told me:
"The machine was running a file system check"
That was reason the server went down, but as i am not on a managed server, they couldnt help me further.
Can someone explain to me what that is, and how can i prevent it from happening again?
This link will give you a better idea of things :
If that is what you are referring to.
Yes, i think that is it.
How do i fix it so it doesnt happen all the time?
That is not a reason for a filesystem check, but rather something that occurs AFTER a server is rebooted (whether from corrupt files, or a long time without filesystem being checked). The reboot would have had to occur first most likely (though there are some advanced ways of doing this without a reboot sometimes, but doesn't sound like it if your server was actually down...). There is no way really to stop it, as system usually requires it and does it automatically...sometimes it is quick, other times with large drives, or lots of errors, it can take hours.

You can ask for a temporary KVMoIP and see what happens during the boot process and run some diagnostics
When uptime counts.

You can also ask your web hosting company to help you. I suppose that would be the best decision in this situation
Actualy you dont have anything to "fix' as nothing is broken...

I DO NOT recommend on doing that.
better off waiting a bit longer for a reboot then corrupting your data.
i advice you not to touch these settings unless you dont mind of data loss.

the cause of you server going down is not the file system check, but something else, either the server is overloaded or hardware fault or some cables/hardware didn't attached properly
