How many people have you met from online?

Greetings,

I recently had the pleasure of meeting Michelle from << the company I work for >> and it was a delightful experience. She is a wonderful person and it was very refreshing to FINALLY meet someone from online. You always hear horror stories about how they are not who they say they are and I was worried about that, haha. I'm pleased that my first meet from online was a success!

How many people have you meet from online and what was the overall experience? Was it good, bad or extremely uncomfortable?

The only time I've ever met anyone from online was the WHT Toronto meetup many years ago.

Vito and many others met up for some hosting banter over dinner and then we were treated to a DC tour of the 151 Front St. building by Miles at PriorityColo. It was pretty damn awesome.

Aside from that, I've actually never met anyone else in RL from online. I have about 20+ people who call me weekly as if we were RL friends but I've never met them.

Quite a few from an online group I'm in. A guy that I'm good friends with now, I met online through another online group then met up with him one night at college, good friends ever since.

I've only met one person and it was by chance mainly because he lives down the road and we are members of the same site but I knew of him from the site and just happened to run into him.

I run a virtual airline & have been over to the States & stayed with a couple of the other members. I have to say Americans are such generous hosts, my only worry was the thought of no-one turning up when I first arrived, but that worry was totally unfounded.

Always good to read people have good experiences; did visit many online friends over the years when budget allowed to (in these days referred to as couch surfing i believe, or maybe thats old fashioned already )

I have to warn though; you may get yourself a husband or wife and all the troubles around long distance relationships

Well, I have this korean girl who I met 3 weeks ago at school. We were penpals (email pals) for 3 years now and finally we had the chance to meet because she came here to the Philippines to study and yeah, we're from the same university.

I was 16 when I met her online, now I'm 18!

There have been fair few I suppose. Most meetings were related to work, while others were friends. Oh yeah not to forget my ex too.

Was it good, bad or extremely uncomfortable?
Definitely I would rate most online meetings as A+. However still it ain't a substitute for making friends offline at places of interest.

I've heard about that kind of thing happening.

In the 10+ years I've been online, I've met numerous people in person that I first met online, mostly from WHT and one other group. It has almost always been a good experience. If you and the other person are yourselves online, you'll already know each other when you meet in person. I recommend the experience.

I've met at least a couple dozen people in person that I first met online, several from WHT. Almost all of them have been great people and I have had long lasting relationships with many of them.

My pre-Internet life involved Ham radio, in my teens. Similarly I'd talk to people first, and sometimes meet them in person. Met a lot of great people there too, but met a few really strange ones. It's a different world really.

I haven't met many due to my location, however I have spoken over the phone a few times with some people I know.
