Maiahost Review [Split from older thread]

Hi, I had the misfortune of joining Maiahost Multiple Plan for 5 months before I was kicked out for using 5% of my monthly bandwidth allocation and 51% of my disk space allocation. Although they complained that I hit their 1.5% CPU usage limit (by the way, Hostgator offers 25%), I suspect that they are actually damn sore that I used up 51% of their disk space. I was told by the Online Chat Staff that I hit 2.6% CPU usage, while their manager says I hit 10%. They can't even coordinate a lie properly.

To be sure, before that, they were very friendly and helpful. So I do agree that all those positive Maiahost reviews are true until you use "too much" of your allocation which they are not sincere to give in the first place. According to their manager, they could give my allocation to 20 other people, can you imagine that? And I just hit 5% of my monthly bandwidth allocation and half my disk space allocation! Maiahost really do look like a modern-day Jesus Christ trying to feed 3,000 people with 6 fishes. They challenged me to find a webhost that will accept me and I found 2 for them, i.e. Hosgator and GoDaddy, LOL. Now, they keep their mouth shut. A small company trying to act big. By the way, their VDS has a 20% CPU cap which is even lower than Hostgator's shared-hosting, LOL. For more details, visit Dummipedia.org/Template:Maiahost

Try joining them and see! 40,000 MB? I joined their Multiple Plan and was promised 50,000 MB. But I got kicked out after I used 2,550 MB because they said I hit the 1.5% CPU usage cap. Don't look at anything. JUST LOOK AT THE CPU USAGE CAP. It will kill you long, long before you even reach 10% of what they promise you! In my case, it was only 5%. If you don't believe, just join them and see. For details, visit my website at Dummipedia.org. If I have removed my notice, type Template:Maiahost in the search box and you will know what I mean.

Not really - we have clients that use far more (and pay extra for traffic) but the majority of small websites on the servers consume a lot less. If this is overselling try 7500 GB traffic for a 5.95/mo account which another popular webhost offers. My point is we can deliver both the space and the traffic that we offer.
Hi Maiahost, want an open debate here? I take you on anytime with your company's less than honest advertising. You are still trying to bluff by talking about bandwidth when you should be talking about your CPU USAGE CAP. All your customers will hit your micro-mini 0.7% and 1.5% CPU usage cap (Single and Multiple Plan respectively), long before they can even use 10% of their bandwidth allocation. Your bandwidth and disk space allocation are pure rubbish. I told your company that you could change the MB to GB from 50,000MB to 50,000GB and it won't make no difference to you or your customer, right? I was kicked out because I used 2,550MB bandwidth for July 2009. Want to challenge me on that?

They allow the 25% for 90 seconds, not as a average per day, if you use that much you'll kicked for sure of any shared host.

Hi Jedito, thanks for pointing that out. But that is not the crux of the issue, so let us wait for Maiahost to respond, especially from Venetsian who claimed to be the Maiahost Owner in his email to me.

My total disk space usage is 2,550MB (including backups) and my Monthly Bandwidth Transfer is 2,352 MB. Mind you, I signed up for Maiahost Multiple Plan, not their Single Plan. Is my usage too much? And an Anonymous Maiahost Manager wrote to me, saying: "It is better for us to refund you since you will cost us more money if we host you. As I said, your website is using a lot of resources and we can host about 20 other people for the same resources you use." Hear that? That usage of mine is meant for 20 people! Does it then mean that for Maiahost's Multiple Plan, a customer gets only 117.6MB of monthly bandwidth and 127.5MB of disk space before he is kicked out?

I immediately disabled my biggest website, Dummipedia.org, and transferred another 3 websites out of Maiahost to bring my usage down. But they still insist that I must take their VDS Plan or get out. Is that reasonable?

Let's wait for Venetsian to answer this charge. But then again, I doubt he dare to come. The facts are indisputable, with the events and full text of the correspondence with Maiahost prominently displayed in my major websites.

Hi Jedito, do you think that I ever come close to 25% CPU usage for even one second? According to their Online Chat Staff, I reached 2.6%. This could be possible, I don't know.... but later, the company claimed it to be 10% since they wanted to force me to take up their VDS Plan or get lost. Well, I know why they adjusted that to 10%. Joe from Maiahost Support says: "Maia Single and Five packages are intended for small websites only. The Semi-Dedicated packages and VPS servers are for large website since they are limited from 10% to 20% of the whole server resource pool." Can't be asking you to take up their VDS Plan when you are at 2.6%, right?

I approached GoDaddy with my actual usage and they proposed me their Deluxe Plan, since this is the minimum that I can go for as I am hosting multiple sites. Did GoDaddy asked me to go for their VDS Plan? No, neither did they insist I must go for their Unlimited Shared Hosting, either. But I did because I was planning to add a forum or a blog for some of my websites.

Name Server NS1.MAIA4.COM hosts 558 domains. Honestly, I don't know what a reasonable number is. Any idea?

Hi, I am a real dummy, I can't find the Desk Help button. Anyway, I just want to confirm that I have posted a ticket and also sent all correspondences and proof of purchase of Maiahost Multiple Plan to your email at Web Hosting Talk <wht@webhostingtalk.com>.I know you did say: "DO NOT REPLY TO THIS EMAIL! NO ONE WILL READ IT!" But do read it because the correspondence are quite lengthy and I do not know of any other simpler method of sending them to you. You can also see the text in my main website at Dummipedia.org but I just found out that I still missed quite a substantial portion of the correspondence. Will add it in at a later stage as they are not as important. In the meantime, that missing exchange has also been posted to you. My webpage also contains snapshot of my actual usage, as shown in the Cpanel. Should you need additional information, please let me know. Let's see who is telling a lie.

Hi Jedito, while we are awaiting for Venetsian to appear (which I doubt he would, nor even any Maiahost representative since I have a very air-tight case), I would like to ask. Once you hit the CPU usage cap, does it means that there is no going back? Mind you, I was not having a lone website. I had 8 websites of varying age, size and traffic. I immediately disabled Dummipedia.org which accounts for probably 70-80% of my total traffic, transferred 3 websites out but still they insist that I must take their VDS Plan. According to their online chat staff, "You have no choice but to go for our VDS Plan" when I asked them whether there was any other alternative. Why can't I take two Multiple Plans from them which is still much much cheaper than VDS?

According to ReadySetConnect: "Shared web hosting is perfect for personal web sites, hobby web sites, small – medium sized business sites, etc. If your website is CPU intensive (large forum and/or high traffic web sites) you might want to consider going dedicated instead. You DO NOT want to go with shared hosting if: you have a business website that is fully dependent on internet sales, have a web site that has over 5,000 visitors a day, or a website that uses over 300GB of transfer a month. The above types of web sites should also be on a dedicated server."

But my websites are non-commercial, have a total traffic of less than 600 visitors a day and as stated previously, my monthly bandwidth at the time of suspension was 2.4GB. How many percent is 2.4GB out of ReadySetConnect's 300GB? 0.8%, right?

Does the foregoing incident prove Maiahost's point... that they can deliver? Deliver my foot. Deliver!

I have finally made contact with Venetsian at Digital Point and has invited him over. Seems like he responded over there because users there appear to support him without knowing the background as I had not provided any. My mistake here is that I posted too many details which he cannot reply to, LOL. Anyway, let's see if he dares to come.
