Is Chicago considered "East Coast" and a good alternative to DC,VA,NY?

Would Chicago be considered a suitable alternative for the "east coast" for a server instead of Washington DC, Virginia, and New York?
How are latencies to Europe from Chicago vs DC or VA?

    Thank you

I would consider Chicago East Coast. I'm from Toronto and I get tend to get better pings to Chicago than Montreal or New York.

    Type escape sequence to abort.
Sending 5, 100-byte ICMP Echos to 217.29.76.13, timeout is 2 seconds:
    !!!!!
    Success rate is 100 percent (5/5), round-trip min/avg/max = 124/124/124 ms

It'll be ~20ms more to Chicago from Europe than to NY or DC.

I wouldn't consider Chicago east coast at all, it is more of north central.

Geographically on a map Chicago is considerably farther into the US than any eastern coastal states.

I consider Chicago to be Central, as is Dallas. Great connectivity to Ontario, and the Central US. There would be additional latency to get data to Europe as opposed to the East Coast locations.

Chicago is considered central US or as I would call it "Midwest".

Chicago is proabably pretty close and very nice place to be. It's only 6 hrs from Minneapolis via car. Just make sure your not in a datacenter in the Gary, Indiana area as the streets tend to flood easily when it rains heh!
