    Bind DNS Server (Windows)

    I have a Bind DNS server setup and running on windows. Im trying to set up my domain at namecheap to use my name servers but it keeps telling me that the nameserver isint registered.

    I have the nameserver set up as ns1.domain.com and i can see that its listening on port 53.

    I did a local test on the server and the DNS is working properly.

    What am i doing wrong?

    They're probably talking that you haven't registered your DNS server in the registrar, not that it's not working. Few if any registrars (in my experience, anyway) actually check that the primary/secondary DNS is working and responding properly. They just want you to setup and configure your primary/secondary DNSes and "register" them simply means pick a hostname and IP address for them in the panel for that registrar.

    Yes the domain is registered to namecheap. Ive never had problems with them either, im just trying to get my DNS working on my domain. DNS works on their servers, but they dont offer PTR records which is why im hosting my own DNS server in the first place.

    I contacted namecheap support and they told me that "The nameservers are showing that they are not registered at this time."

    @serverminds

    What do you mean by "you haven't registered your DNS server in the registrar, not that it's not working".

    Find below a screenshot of the error.

    Try changing the Nameserver of your domain .I mean take the domain out of namecheap's Nameservers.Press:"Transfer DNS to Webhost"
    Then put the IP of your server.After that try register the nameservers.

    Ah, i see.

    I missed an advanced nameserver function near the bottom of the page.

    It works! Thanks for the help.
