URGENT sudden problem...
Hoping somebody here has solution. Do you see the below screenshot?
http://tropicalfetish.com/shoot.jpg
Do you see how each title has a black square on each side? The code for that is █.
I post often on craigslist... I have been doing so for the past 2 yrs now. After I delete a post in order to be able to re-post it few days later I would simply delete post... and re-post it.
But now all of a sudden when I re-post I am noticing that the browser changes the code for the black square from █ to â– ˆ... and then it shows up jibberish as you can see from the screenshot.
Do you have any idea why this is suddenly happening? This has NEVER been problem until today... opera and firefox browser suddenly have this problem. Internet explorer on the other hand has never re-posted it correctly.
This is extremely important I figure out how to fix this (too long to explain why)... if anybody knows I'd be really grateful.
Thanks.Last edited by Frosty; 07-29-2009 at 01:46 PM.

There must be a setting in opera I can adjust to fix this? This problem just started suddenly today... the browser is changing the code when I re-post I am now forced to type in the code all over again rather than being able to simply re-post the ad. It's really a waste of time and time consuming. =(

Yes, clearing cache/cookies does not help. This problem just started today in firefox and opera. I will try from another computer tonight...
You see this other screenshot... as I am re-posting the ad the block is already there... so everything is normal so far...
http://tropicalfetish.com/block.jpg
BUT after I click "continue" this is what it looks like... the block has suddenly changed into jibberish as you can see:
http://tropicalfetish.com/mess.jpg
This NEVER happened until today. Why is the block suddenly turning jibberish? Now I must delete the block and then type the code in again in order for the block to appear. It's a waste of time when you post often... I don't understand how to fix?
I used to be able to simply re-post the ad but now I must always delete that block and retype the code or else it turns jibberish.Last edited by Frosty; 07-29-2009 at 04:19 PM.

darkeden,
If you have never been able to do this before then it's because you were using the wrong browser. With internet explorer it NEVER worked. So if that's what you used then that's why.
However in firefox and opera it has ALWAYS worked perfectly fine until today. I post on craigslist every single day very often for the past 2 yrs now from various computers. So long as you used firefox or opera it worked fine. I post on craiglist 8 times a day 7 days a week and it has ALWAYS worked.
Something suddenly changed this morning (its not normal for it to change into jibberish like that)... I'm about to try it from another computer... I have feeling something has gone awry on my desktop...
PS: It's no use to ever contact craigslist about anything... been there done that... they never bother to respond and their forums are rather... useless.

darkeden,
I'm trying it from a laptop in about 30 minutes. If it's same problem on the laptop then I'll know for certain that that the prob isn't on my desktop.
And if something DID change then it's on the actual craigslist website itself causing this funky sudden behavior. Because there's noway that all of a sudden BOTH firefox and opera had any changes done that would cause the actual browser to be causing this behavior... I just don't see how it could be a browser issue.
For the past 2 yrs I post all day long and it has always worked... suddenly this morning... not so anymore.
When you re-post as often as I do it's a hassle to have to edit and paste in the code again and again... rather than simply re-post.

What windows operating system are you using? Did you install any updates recently? You can remove updates in Windows Vista.
Did you install any language packs on your computer to cause this problem?
Do you have an ad blocker?
Do you type this ad in your browser or do you copy it from notepad and paste it on Craigslist? Try using a different editing program other than what you use.

Hey OWM
rlshosting,
The problem is NOT on my computer and there is nothing for me to fix. I have not changed ANYTHING. I have ALWAYS simply deleted the ad and then immediately re-post it. I checked it on a laptop and then also another computer so it's happening to everyone.
It seems that craigslist did indeed make some sort of a change to their website last night which is causing this.
I think it's a rather odd coincidence that both firefox AND opera have this problem start at exactly the same time? Is it possible that both firefox and opera had some form of a change made to the browser even though I did not even update nor touch the browser?
Thanks.

I tested the code on the discussion forum. In the message field it shows up fine as a black square but not in the title field...shows only the code.

RajanUrs,
The black square shows up just fine in the title field. But ONLY if you put the actual code in... it won't show up if you delete an existing ad... then re-post that ad.

Why can't you just keep the ad in a text file with the proper codes, then just copy/paste it from there whenever you need to make a new ad?
I'm assuming the problem is with the copying (not the pasting), so that should work.

CArmstrong,
You aren't understanding at all what this is issue for me... yes of course I can simply delete the black square and then paste the code in so that when I re-post the ad it shows up fine. But I NEVER had to do this before... I just simply re-posted it super fast effortlessly.
You do not understand how often I post for this huge real estate company. It's a MAJOR hassle and pain the neck neck that I have to do that now. The people I post for insist they want that damned black square in their title to make their ad more distinguished looking.
Does anybody have any ideas how I can use some sort of trick around this? I'm about to take a screenshot of the entire title (crop it into an image)... and then have it as a linked image. This way I won't have to use any type of idiotic code for the black square which has decided to turn jibberish as I re-post the ads.
I wish he'd just use something like this instead that can't turn jibberish as I re-post:
****** ROOFDECK - BUILT 2008 - GYM - POOL - PARKING ********
Or
$$$$$$$ ROOFDECK - BUILT 2008 - GYM - POOL - PARKING $$$$$$$$
But he wants the black square!!!!
Any ideas? Thanks.

Darn!!!!
I took screenshot of the title and then tried to hotlink to it by pasting the following in the title: <img src="http://tropicalfetish.com/test1.jpg">
This is what it was SUPPOSED to show up as in the title.. you can view the image here: http://tropicalfetish.com/test1.jpg
But craigslist doesn't allow that in the title... it shows up blank. There must be some sort of trick to get that black square to appear when I re-post without having to manually paste it in each time? Do you guys think this is a craiglist issue... or rather a browser issue? Both firefox and opera on EVERYBODY'S computer is doing this. So I think craigslist is more than likely the culprit they must have made some sort of change...

The next time you post a new add, try using the code █ instead of █.
They should both create the same black square.
(Also make sure to add the ; at the end of the code.)Last edited by CodePC; 07-30-2009 at 04:54 PM.

CodePC,
Thanks... I will go try right away and let you know... I have feeling it won't work though because the code that creates a clover is doing same thing. Be right back....

CodePC,
I just tried it... are you sure you gave me the correct code? Because that code doesn't create a black square at all... are you able to with that code?
Do you know where I can look for such codes? I searched on google but am not sure what these types of codes are called. Maybe I can search through a bunch and find another code... doesn't necessarily have to be black square but something that looks very distingished and I can convince them to us it instead...
Thanks.
PS: I have forgotten how to post codes here on WHT.... everytime I post a code it does the actual act... when I only want to show the actual code. I feel like an idiot for asking... but how can I post actual codes on the forum so that it shows the actual code and not the real thing.Last edited by Frosty; 07-30-2009 at 04:58 PM.

I guess these codes are called ascii codes? I still don't know the best place to search for various codes like that...
But I still don't know how to post those codes on the forum here so that I can show the actual code only..
Thanks.

Here's some that are similar to the black square (FULL BLOCK is the actual name).
http://theorem.ca/~mvcorks/cgi-bin/u...=2580&end=259F
Craigslist does not support these types of characters anyway. They state here that "HTML other than what is listed below will be stripped out at posting time."
http://www.craigslist.org/about/help...stings/details
You may want to mention that to the people you are posting the ads for.

CodePC,
Thanks I shall check those out... but I must be stupid because as you can see I just tried to post the actual code only and it's showing the real thing. I don't see the CODE button anywhere. The button I used is the one that looks like this #
See it's showing the real thing.. not the actual code....
Code:█

Forget about the code and messing around on craigslist.
Fly over here or you can jump in the private chopper and I'll give you the life of a princess.
You'll never have to work again.
Rofl...one night with me and you'll probably not be able to do anything again.
