no such thing as unlimited so using 30-50gb on an oversold server will easily get you suspended, I'm not surprised that they did that and gave you another reason for the suspension (the magic of overselling) - at least you learned something here about hosts offering you a whole lot for very little in return.

Sorry to hear about your poor experiences but I think if you require that much disk space on a shared plan you should have went with a VPS instead.

Well, 30-50 is probably 10 times more than your money were really paying for. I'd say you were getting quite a deal.

20$ setup fees that took 48 Hours is not refunded and Domain
This is a typical refund policy. No surprise there. It's quite likely all detailed in the TOS that you agreed to.

    # FREE Instant Setup ( FAKE i paid 20$ for setup and it took 48 HOURS )
    That is indeed bad.

i did transfer my Files which is ( File Downloader php script )
That sounds like essentially a proxy site, which is not usually allowed in shared hosting environments, more so in a budget shared hosting account.

The reasons why you had all theses problems in the first place: Unlimited Hosting...

Well actually, that's a rather nasty stereotype, because HostGator does unlimited hosting and manages things pretty well..

I think your problem came into picking JustHost. A quick search here on WHT would have frightened anyone besides a curious individual away. Always search for reviews on a provider before trusting them to host your websites, plane and simple.

If you want quality, pay a reasonable amount of $$, between 3-6$, for a reasonable amount of space, between 500MB-3GB, and you will be much happier....

Yeah, but at the same time they're one of the few companies who are able to do well with managing it.

It should be noted that whenever you buy "unlimited" anything, you're buying something your host can never, in a million years deliver on. I guarantee that if you take the top 10 hosts out there that are doing this unlimited gimmick right now, read their TOS, and use their space in a way that fully adheres to their TOS, but uses a large quantity of space, there's not a single one that won't shut you down and cancel your account.

The old adage of "If it's too good to be true..." seems to have been forgotten in the webhosting industry. =(

It has not been forgotten, It is more a tendency to 'forget' - 'don't care' or 'don't know', There are thousands + people out there that fall for such gimmicks all the time but it takes some convincing that it is not real.

Ah...the unlimited con again....driving their customers off to hell in a handcart.

Unlimited hosting's like The American Dream.....as in you need to be asleep to believe it.

Hm, when you hear 'unlimited', at most, think 80GB maximum. Read reviews and make sure you know what your buying.

JustHost is as usual with their clueless support team but its common sense not to use shared hosting for a file downloading site. You'd be more suited in a VPS or dedicated box.

True, but they shouldn't offer "unlimited" as it's misleading.

They shouldn't, But there is no LAW to say that it is illegal to do so. It is all in the game of marketing, And how can you really justify if a host oversells or not (mostly all hosts) oversell in one form or another.

It is about making the base and bringing you in, It's just unfortunate that many do not understand the concept of unlimited and not all read the fine print to understand what they are allowed to use on any daily basis.

This is one persons experience, Though as a large host and one who offers 'unlimited', You are bound to get such bad reviews.

This should never deter you away from the host as you've never experienced them for yourself, Though reviews can be a good way of choosing your webhost

Honestly if you need to be hosting so much data, do yourself a favor and pay more money. Unlimited hosting is good for web sites only, not for file sharing etc.

A few notes, like others have mentioned:
    1. This is oversold hosting. They'll do what they want to get you off
    2. Read the TOS, Ex: like hostgator's and others seem to say if you use more than 1% space on html, you're suspended
    3. Always keep domain + hosting separate, although they gave it to you "free" but now you don't have it.

I used to be soooo attracted to oversold hosting. Then, someone on FHT explained it to me quite simply: By the time you even use 50-100gb your site will probably be resource intensive enough to have a VPS/dedi. And I also realized my sites were only using 1gb bandwidth / month XD

It is unfortunate for you, but this is the exact kind of mistake you are unlikely to make again.

I know what you mean, but I know of no such limit at Hostgator.

You should never judge a site by it's cover, They could have the worst design but most outstanding support.

I never liked that host myself. I tried to sign up once, but got lots of errors on the signup page, so I just went to "choice #2". Now I am happy I didn't go with them.
I cannot BELIEVE that they are asking you to send copies of CC and ID. Isn't that ILLEGAL?

  27. #27
i guess no web hoster will ever ask for that anyway.. no offense.. if anyone out there really has similar incident, should be more careful..

Always professional Hosting Provider is process quickly and safely! Like order in name.com, Thay said that processing but about 10 second check email and whois, my domain was ordered.

Quickly and safely is a important features for Hosting Provider, I don't discuss about space and BW because instead that one, I can review them

It is normally all automated, If an issue arises with your order being marked as FRAUD then it won't go through and it needs to be done manually.

Point me to a law or regulation, On the net or in general where it states that offering 'UNLIMITED' is not allowed?

Car dealerships were nailed for this pretty hard back in the 80's.

Let's recast the scenario... If a car dealership advertised "FLYING CARS, BUY THEM NOW" and in tiny tiny tiny fine print on the back page of a contract buried in the agreement said "cars only fly when powered by small portions of spent uranium in the year 2038 on a tuesday", they would get nailed pretty hard for it.

    http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/business/adv/bus35.shtm

How does the FTC determine if an ad is deceptive?
A typical inquiry follows these steps:

The FTC looks at the ad from the point of view of the "reasonable consumer" - the typical person looking at the ad. Rather than focusing on certain words, the FTC looks at the ad in context - words, phrases, and pictures - to determine what it conveys to consumers.

The FTC looks at both "express" and "implied" claims. An express claim is literally made in the ad. For example, "ABC Mouthwash prevents colds" is an express claim that the product will prevent colds. An implied claim is one made indirectly or by inference. "ABC Mouthwash kills the germs that cause colds" contains an implied claim that the product will prevent colds. Although the ad doesn't literally say that the product prevents colds, it would be reasonable for a consumer to conclude from the statement "kills the germs that cause colds" that the product will prevent colds. Under the law, advertisers must have proof to back up express and implied claims that consumers take from an ad.

The FTC looks at what the ad does not say - that is, if the failure to include information leaves consumers with a misimpression about the product. For example, if a company advertised a collection of books, the ad would be deceptive if it did not disclose that consumers actually would receive abridged versions of the books.

The FTC looks at whether the claim would be "material" - that is, important to a consumer's decision to buy or use the product. Examples of material claims are representations about a product's performance, features, safety, price, or effectiveness.

The FTC looks at whether the advertiser has sufficient evidence to support the claims in the ad. The law requires that advertisers have proof before the ad runs.

Also, a bit more pertinent, however the laws mentioned above maintain as well.

    http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/busi...rce/bus28.shtm

In short, yes, the industry is VERY MUCH READY for a massive, class action lawsuit against oversellers, or at the very least, ready to have the smack laid down on anyone selling a product they cannot actually provide by the FTC.

Do research before buying. A simple google search does help or asking feedback on a particular company.
