    Is there any software applications like mod_throttle installed in the apache. Then it would be due to restriction set by this module, you can get error.

    Second possibility is sparse RAM. You can verify the free memory in the server using the following command :
    =============
    free -m
    ==============

    Sometime restrictions set in the mod_security can also be the root cause.

    Before modifying *anything* or tinkering with stuff, you should look at your apache error log and see what it's saying. That's truly the first step to troubleshooting just about anything. If you go tinkering without knowing what the problem is, you're just taking shots in the dark.

    For default CentOS, tail -f /var/log/httpd/error_log (while the errors are occurring), for cPanel, tail -f /usr/local/apache/logs/error_log .

    If your troubleshooting doesn't start with the logfiles, you're simply doing something wrong.

    It depends on different factors
    1.port speed
    2.site hits
    3.mysql and apache configuration
    4.free memory
    Thanks

    Just a small question, you said centos 5.2, - are you aware centos 5.3 is out...? -
    1. update your system to make sure you got the latest stable packages.
    2. check your error logs for apache , and messages in /var/log directory.
    3. give us the output of the commands " top " & " free -m "

    check your apache logs and also optimize your apache and mysql.
    may be you also need to increase a timeout in mysql or execution time in php

    Does apache still have eaccelerator?. Try disabling it and access the website.It may be due to some application that is causing the conflict with the apache. Trying to rebuild apache and php again with minimal configuration would help to sort the issue.

    Try recompiling your apache in your previous settings and verify if all sites are loading fine.

    check the error log, without this information it wouldn't help much to find out what is the problem and suggest the solution for you.

    Agreed. There's not a *single* suggestion in this thread that should be applied until you see if Apache is generating errors.

    That's how proper system administration works. You see an error, you correct the error. Your apache instance not responding properly is a symptom of another problem, not the actual problem itself. All of the above mentioned suggestions might work for a specific scenario, however at this point, no one knows what the real problem is.
