    Power Savings: Q8200 vs. Q8200S

    Hi Gents,
Looking for some feedback and was hoping someone had the answer. I'm looking at the Q8200 for a new batch of servers but noticed for 35% more cash I can upgrade them to 8200s models.

Does anyone have any stats about how much power (in Ampage as thats what i am measured on) a Q8200S model will save over a Q8200 model? Is it even worth the extra money in return for the savings (if its very minor)?

    Thanks!

    -Chris

    Considering 1A = $15/mo on average, it saves you $3.75 a month.

well, people don't usually put full load on CPU. assuming 50% load for average use in typical server, the power saving between 95w TDP and 65w TDP can be just 15~20 watt per server.

Assuming idle usage then the power usage will be near to no difference?

I remember reading an article a while back. There was something like 3-5W difference during idle. You can pickup Q9550 instead of Q8200s and still save a few dollars.

Use the money to buy a higher efficiency power supply to replace your old one. You will save more and the PS can be used for future servers also.
