We use some spam blockers that come with cPanel but sometimes it feels like it isn't enough to block out all spam coming in and going out of the server. Anyone here have any experience with any other third party softwares that may be able to stop emails in its track basing it on the content of the email itself?
I searched around a little, didn't find anything too helpful and I know getting recommendations is always one of the best ways to go.
Can you let us know what you've tried so far, so we know what not to advise you on?
just the basics such as spam assassin and box trapper that comes with cpanel - but a few days ago we found someone sending out tons of spam emails anyway. was annoying since we had to deal with a complaint from our IP providers.
OK, that's good to know. In terms of incoming mail, have you enabled the RBL's in Exim, for example?
In terms of outgoing mail, have you installed CSF and LFD? (www.configserver.com). LFD can be configured to track mail sent from the server, making it a lot easier to detect sources of spam, and even notifying you when certain thresholds are met.
yea, we don't have much of a problem with incoming spam
as for CSF and LFD - haven't tried those yet. but I will see if I can give those a try - thanks for the recommendation
we've just never had a problem with people sending spam before a few days ago so we never did too much research on it - guess things do change and you're bound to get people like that on the server sooner or later
