What FTP client do you use?

I've had my fill of issues with CuteFTP Pro and I'm ready to switch. What FTP/SFTP client do you use? My only must-haves are that it support FTP AND SFTP, that it have a built-in text editor, and that it have a tabbed interface (So that I can edit multiple files at once).

So far nothing I've demoed has even come close to what I'm looking for. Cost isn't really an issue. I just need a program that works well, and has a similar layout and feature set to CuteFTP.

For Windows, IPSwitches WS_FTP and FlashFXP are both good. FlashFXP has a built in editor I believe.

Once every couple of weeks I experience some other new issue - Files not uploading completely, even though cuteftp says they were (This one kills me - Sometimes I'll edit a file quickly, save it, and close it, only to find out that it only uploaded 75% of the file...)...Sometimes the transfer queue is completely black and I can't read anything.

Just minor annoyances that really ruin a great piece of software for me..

On win32 platforms I use winscp (which supports ftp, sftp, scp, and now ftps). No built in editor, but you set whatever external editor you want (I use winvile). No tabbing, but I use wintabber (the last free version) to simulate tabbing via multiple instances of winscp. I also use wintabber to tab the gazillions of putty sessions I have open.

So this does not exactly match your needs 100%. How I do it is not completely "clean", but winscp and wintabber cause me less grief then many of the commercial stuff I've messed with. Winscp is constantly updated, which is nice. I just wish winscp had a Linux version because Filezilla and gFTP just plain suck for extended usage.

Best of luck in your search...

Yea, I was in the same boat as you and I tried the others but I got so used to using CuteFTP for such a long time that I made a full circle and came back to it. Hope you have better luck.

Filezilla seems excellent from what I've seen of it.

WS_FTP is one of the oldest and most popular. It's simple and easy, but not free. This should have all the features you are looking for.

YEs, I have absolutely same idea. I have been using WS-FTP for years ( Let me think about it.. I guess more than 4-5) and never been regretful and never think about change

But I can say fiezilla is free and good..

Also, txftp is free online ftp that you may want to try..

I've been using FlashFXP since 2002. They haven't released a new version in quite a year though.

Why not use the one that is built into Windows. Open My Computer and type in the address bar ftp://example.com and it will prompt you for a username and password. Drag and drop files just like you would on your own hard drive.

    I use CuteFTP Pro too.

I like the built it html auto-complete feature of it.

Is there any other client out there to provide all features of CuteFTP Pro?
