Rename Windows 7?
Does anybody know if they are going to rename Windows 7 to something else when it comes out? Windows 7 sounds odd when they have vista, xp, me, 2000, and me.

Hello,
Microsoft has already confirmed 'Windows 7' as the final name.
I found this: http://www.neowin.net/news/main/08/1...-is-final-name
Remember they had 'Windows 3.x'

The name was finalized a long while ago.

It was released to manufacturing today (RTM), so they're probably fixed on that name. I think some ex-Microsoft employee suggested "Vista 2". I hear he's buried somewhere around here.
If you have to operate your company behind the scenes or under a fake name, maybe it's time to leave the industry and start something fresh.

I'm shocked they are just going to stick with 'Windows 7'. I guess its simple and direct but its not cool to say like 'XP' is, haha. I just assumed they would have something more unique.

Your correct it is not the 7th release persay, but it is the the 7th major release on the NT kernel.
I believe the version history, to make Winbows 7 the 7th version, is:- Windows NT2
- Windows NT3
- Windows NT4
- Windows 2000
- Windows XP
- Windows Vista
- Windows 7

So, they're just pretending the others (1.0, 2.0, 3.0, 3.1, 95, 98, ME) just don't exist then, heh.

I know they used a different kernel, but that doesn't make them any less qualifying releases.

I actually like Win 7 a lot by preference .
I agree with DephNet on the kernal talk.
PS: And just for the sake of it, RTM was released yesterday .
And the final version would come out for selling, on October 2.
