FTP timing out when uploading small files

There is a behavour with my server FTP when uploading a whole directory with many files in many sub-directories

Very often, the server disconnect itself when actively uploading files and the log simply says 'timeout'

It is as if the file got 'stuck' half way, and the FTP consider them as idle, therefore it disconnect you with a 'timeout' before reconnecting you.

But i have no problem uploading a single 200mb file to the server via FTP. I suppose no problem with 'keep alive'

So what is this behavior and how to solve it?

Try enabling passive mode in ftp server.

are you trying to upload files via the file manager in cpanel?
also try to switch to Pure-FTPD in WHM and let us know the result.

You can try Pure-FTPD as recommended but overall Proftpd is a better daemon.

Turning on passive should fix your issue unless you have some sort of packet loss, mtu mismatch, or packet-level inspection causing issues.

Could it be that you have installed PRM? I think PRM can kill processes if it goes beyond the limit set in PRM

why is that? From what Ive been hearing pure-ftpd is the better daemon

try to do a ping to IP address and check if any packet loss, additionally traceroute to IP address and see if any packets are being dropped.

Ok, sorry there was a confusion. I am using pure-ftpd all the while in my cpanel server

if there is a packet drop, then uploading large files (100mb) would be disconnected.

the problem here is, I am uploading 50 small files, and the connection get timeout and reset while uploading half-way.... what is the cause of such behavior?

Not sure if PRM or security/limits.conf can affect FTP. Do you have PRM installed?

Out of curiosity, do you have a firewall enabled? If so you you may need to enable the passive ports option in your ftp configuration and then open those ports in your firewall.

If you can give us a bit more information, we could help you sort this out.

may be there is a firewall that blocked your passive ports.
try to enable passive ports in your ftp configuration and also enabled your passive ports range in your firewall rules.
