Question 10TB dedicated server UK based now that..

So now that 10TB offers cloud hosting based in either the USA or UK:

    http://www.10tb.com/cloud-servers/

Howcome they can't offer their dedicated servers in the UK? 10TB's dedicated servers are only USA based.

10TB comes from a pseudo-partnership that they have with Softlayer.com, which right now only has datacenters in the United States. They have other products at Uk2.net & VI.Net that might interest you though.

    Hey,

A2B2 and PoundHost both have decent pricing on 10TB servers, try contact them and see what they can do!

I'm pretty sure UK2's servers come with 10TB of monthly traffic... just look on their website.

uk2 only offer 100Mbps ports though on dedicated servers. 10TB offers gigE ports. And uk2 do not offer cloud hosting like 10TB do.

Oh, and the 10tb.com cloud servers are in the UK2 DC's in London. So UK2 sort of do offer cloud hosting.

What I could not find on their web site is the cost if we need to expand the cloud. For example if i want more storage etc.

Only the dedicated servers are in the Softlayer DC's. Our cloud hosting setup has a lot of custom stuff and secret sauce that does not fit well in Softlayer.

Our cloud servers are in our own US and UK DC's.

For now we only sell the Cloudservers on 10tb.com as is. You can add more node's - prices as the same as on VPS.NET. The lowest server on 10tb.com has 7 nodes (Node = 256mb ram/400mhz/10gb storage). The 8th node is $14/month. You can also add per day for $1/day.

    Does that make sense?

Thanks for this info. If we get 2 instnace and transfer data between those 2 , does it counted as public transit or is their a private network.

What I am trying to get to is, I can buy multiple instance and get a large storage pool as long each instance can see each others storage.

if you transfer between internal IP's its not counted. However, if you build two servers the storage is actually split in two as well. So it is not pooled together.

Yep, I understand its not pooled.

So if I get 2 instances (say 2 - Nimbus) and transfer files between those 2 , they are not counted ?

    Jay

PS: You guys should get into cloud storage , storage on SAN biz :-)

yup - the transfer between the two Nimbus' would not be counted if you do it via internal IP's (they are provided for free to you).

Yeah, we are working on cloud storage.

I was looking for a similar solution. VPS seems good for scalability, but Dedicated Servers offer more value for money.

    Hmm... decisions...

What will you be doing with the server? The Softlayer DC has a MUCH better bandwidth mix than UK2's Utah DC in my opinion, so if you're doing anything that requires the best bandwidth, I would go with a dedicated server as you'll get it in Softlayer and you'll get the VPS in UK2's Utah data center.

    Just my opinion

In June Netcraft puts the two networks almost side-by-side

In May Netcraft did not agree with you though

    Softlayers network is great though

oh - guess I should have mentioned that VPS.NET Utah DC is listed on Netcraft as WestHost.com, as we use their DC for this.
    We (UK2Group.com) run both WestHost.com and VPS.NET.
