    OpenVZ bug..??

    Sometimes when creating VPS's manually, I get this error:
    =====================================
    Adding IP address(es): xx.xxx.xxx.xx xx.xxx.xxx.xx
    arpsend: xx.xxx.xxx.xx is detected on another computer : 00:d0:04:e6:98:0a
    vps-net_add WARNING: arpsend -c 1 -w 1 -D -e xx.xxx.xxx.xx eth1 FAILED
    arpsend: xx.xxx.xxx.xx is detected on another computer : 00:d0:04:e6:98:0a
    vps-net_add WARNING: arpsend -c 1 -w 1 -D -e xx.xxx.xxx.xx eth1 FAILED
    =====================================

    Ive been trying to find information on this error message and found a link to lxlab's website: http://forum.lxlabs.com/index.php?t=msg&goto=61071'

    It says to basically ignore that error message, because the VPS will still function.

    Also, I asked my dedicated server provider, and they basically said the same thing.. that it might be a OpenVZ bug..

    Any insight on this issue?

    arpsend is a utility that is sending an ARP request for the IP to see if any machines on the local net are using it, it's reporting that a machine with mac address 00:d0:04:e6:98:0a is using the IP. The networking might work, but what it will do is switch between the VPS and the other machine every so often as each mac address fights for the IP.

    It is not really that uncommon among OpenVZ containers, to be honest...

    Check the Mac address against that of the hardware node, you will sometimes see that it was just the node answering the arp request.

    Make sure the following is in your sysctl.conf file:

    http://wiki.openvz.org/Quick_installation#Configuring

    As long as the network within the container is still functioning alright then you should not need to worry.

    Another scenario is that it could possibly be the router responding to the ARP request, or even the gateway.

    Even the switch could be responding. This is quite normal, its just that vzctl is quite verbose by default.

    Extremely common. We see this with nearly every VPS we create. Nothing to worry about usually.

    Although, if the error continues to show up in the logs, I'd recommend looking into it or changing the mac address.

    Yeah - standard message. Its one of those little unique quirks in OpenVZ that you...*ahem* love!
