Shouldn't there be something in place to prevent a DDOS attack from bringing down an entire DC?

Hold that thought, twitter may be inaccurate. Grabbed from vectorlevel who I was told is at C4D but is not. Disregard.

    Probably is/was a DDoS though.

We do have a shared server there but it shouldn't be related to this specific downtime.

Fear not, when we called them when the issue started they reported no issues.

Looks clean for the past 5 minutes here.

    Their response:
A multi-gigabit DDoS attack was directed at one of our customers on the Premium network. Our providers are now blocking the offending traffic upstream and connectivity should be fully restored. Please let us know if you encounter any further issues.

Downright scary that a "multi-gigabit" attack, presumably smaller than 5gbit brought the premium network to its knees.

My VPS with FH in Dallas is still dead. Went into severe packet loss about half an hour ago and now it's down completely.

So what's going on with Colo4? Are they not so good anymore?

    Anyone concerned?

TW Telecom does have the ability to do null routing through community strings, and we have been doing it with them for 2 years. They are the only 1Gbps link we have anywhere in our network and it was supposed to be upgraded some time ago. Last I heard they are upgrading to 10G this week. This issue should not have been an issue, but it was on new IPs that were not added to the Arbor Peakflow SP which cause it to take more time to identify the specific IPs being targeted. That was fixed the night of the attack. Also, once TWT is upgraded to 10G it won't be an issue.

In addition we are adding more providers now that we have 80 waves up between us and Equinix.

Did the actual network crash, Or did the connections get bogged down to its minimums?
