how can i provide temporary urls for users on my server like http://184.108.40.206/~user until the actual domain resolves? ive seen this done in with cpanel but i dont know how its done exactly. my current server does not have cpanel.
You can enable mod_userdir in your httpd.conf (the following example is from FreeBSD), which will allow the http://ip.ad.dre.ss/~user/:
UserDir disabled root toor daemon operator bin tty kmem games news man sshd bind proxy _pflogd _dhcp uucp pop www nobody mailnull smmsp
AllowOverride FileInfo AuthConfig Limit Indexes
Options MultiViews Indexes SymLinksIfOwnerMatch IncludesNoExec
<Limit GET POST OPTIONS>
Allow from all
<LimitExcept GET POST OPTIONS>
Deny from all
You can also add a ServerAlias in your VirtualHost if you have another domain setup already, i.e.
I know this post is pretty old but i'd like to know how to get temporary domains working as seo friendly urls in cpanel if that's possible?
I would try the method above but i have no idea where to locate that file...httpd.conf
