Question Good UK Host for E-Commerce?

    Hi,

Im setting up my first online shop - selling shoes, and am wondering about the best UK webhost for e-commerce? Hosts Ive looked at so far include:

    Daily - http://www.daily.co.uk/products/onli...ing/index.html - £8.99/month
    UK2 - http://www.uk2.net/ecommerce/ - £10.95/month
    Venda - http://shop.venda.com/engine/shop/pa...tarted/Pricing - £49.99/month

They all seem to offer similar features, but the prices are vastly different - has anyone had experience using any of these?

I would use the included 'shop builder' to set up the checkout and layout, so its easy to add new items etc. Though would still like to fully customise the style of the site with HTML/CSS.

Ideally, I would like users to be able to organise products by sub-categories. Like on some clothing stores, where you can browse by Size, Colour, Price, and Brand etc as shown below:

How could I achieve this - do I need a more advanced template?

    Thanks for any advice! Steve.

Are you looking for a provider who specialises in E-Commerce websites? If they have Fantastico you can install a 'Shopping Cart' software, where you can add many different products etc.

There are quite a few different shopping carts you can get, have you looked into any of them?

Any PHP/MySQL host will allow you to install a shopping cart script. Some of the more popular ones are zen-cart, oscommerce and cubecart.

As you want quite an advanced e-commerce solution, although it's not in the UK I'd suggest shopify.

I haven't used any of the above's sitebuilders, so couldn't comment.

If you are looking for an advanced "turnkey" solution then you may want to checkout 1ShoppingCart.

Thanks for all the fast replies.

It seems separate cart software is the way to go. Ive had a look at the ones you mention - CubeCart appears to be the best for what I am trying to do, though still not sure how I could filter items by sub-categories as in the picture above?

Just to let you know, CubeCart can be installed automatically with Fantastico so if the host offers that it will make installation easier.

I don't think it has the filter options however, I may be wrong.

Ok, thanks for the info. Ive made another thread in the Ecommerce section of the forums to enquire about the best cart software for a clothing store (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showth...91#post6279891).

I suggest you to take a look at webhost.uk.net. They offer various shopping carts with their shared and reseller hosting and ssl certificates as well. I have been using them for last few months and have found their network and servers to be fantastic so far.

Seeing as your going for a standalone solution now, has that affected the budget for hosting?
