    Need cheap 10 Mbps unmanaged

Hello I am looking for a dedicated server which is unmanaged (I am an experienced Sysadmin).

    I need:

Price range: under $100 USD (Closer to $50 is great!)

    - 10 Mbps Unmetered (Will definitely need a true 7Mbps guaranteed utilization, no less) A 100 Mbps port with up to 3000 GB minimum would be better.

    - At least a 1.6 GHz processor

    - 1 GB RAM (2 GB preferred)

    - 160 GB drive

    - NO CONTROL PANEL

    - Adult content needs to be ok.

    - Located outside of the US would be a plus (Europe or Canada).

    - OS: Linux (flexible) but Fedora FC 10 or 11, DEbian or CentOS preferred.

I'm looking for true unmanaged for this price. Paying for managed for me would just be a waste of money. I'm truly the "set it up, give me the password and that's it" type.

I am considering Wholesale Internet. Does anyone know of any better? Does their 10 Mbps unmeterred truly give you 10 Mbps dedicated...any experiences? I need at least 7 Mbps guaranteed.

    Thanks!

Lots of companies would be able to give you this...
I can mention for example Leaseweb, Server.lu outside US, Volumedrive inside US..
10 mbit unmetered is usually really unmetered... for example I had no problems getting it from Leaseweb and no problems using the max of 10mbit on Corenetworks.net when I had server there (I didn't list it above because bandwidth is expensive there - otherwise their service was excellent)

Thank you very much for your recommendations. Leaseweb seems like a very nice fit for me and very reasonably priced.

Server.lu has some restrictions though on streaming and adult sites as it relates to their unmetered access.

We may have restrictions that we almost never apply, and surely not on 10 MBIT/s access. I think that these days everyone should be able to provide 10 MBIT/s that is unmetered and guaranteed for affordable money - at least in Europe and in the US.

It was this part which I saw:

Unmetered traffic means you do not have to worry about receiving surprise traffic bills.

    This is what you get:

    # Unmetered data transfer, in- and out-bound
    # Unmetered data transfer within our network
    # Improved external and internal connectivity
    # Genuine 100MBit speed
    # No Extra Bills

Our bandwidth policy was developed to ensure that every customer gets his fair share of the total bandwidth available. Consequently, we take into account that no customer could cause slow connectivity for others.

This is why bandwidth intensive applications such as:

    # Sex sites
    # Streaming

    # Large FTP sites
    # Proxy servers including TOR
    # P2P
    # IRC servers
    # BitTorrent

and similar are not necessarily covered by our unmetered services and that misuse could incur a connectivity restriction after prior notification.

However, if you need to run applications with high bandwidth utilisation, please contact us at [email protected], and we can arrange a separate redundant dedicated line for you. More about this and especially for "Seedbox" customers can be looked up in our FAQ.

Leaseweb is out as they want at minimum three months in advance for a server under 100 Euros and I am not going to do that. I'm also seeing scary things about weekend support and hard drive failures.

Server.lu would work minus the TOS bandwidth policy which the rep here says isn't enforced, save for the fact that they charge a setup fee and I'm a little hesitant to pay a setup fee for a low end server -- especially these days.

So far it looks like either Wholesale Internet or unmeteredservers.com will be it but I will check into some of the others people have suggested. Thank you.

Yes, I've looked at a few. Unmeteredservers.com for example. They seem to be good, but I am looking to see what other options exist as well. Wholesale internet seems to have a slight edge on price...

    Burst.net-

UNMETERED DETAILS: Each UNMETERED server is connected to a Full-Duplex 10MBPS or 100MBPS switch port, which is connected to a bandwidth pool shared by each specific type of UNMETERED clientele. 10MBPS UNMETERED servers on average can transfer between 2000GB-3000GB per month in both outbound and inbound directions. 100MBPS UNMETERED servers on average can transfer between 8000GB-10000GB per month outbound and 15000GB-20000GB inbound. The bandwidth allocation is not guaranteed/dedicated, and is supplied on a "best-effort" basis---which may result in some slowdowns during peak traffic times. NO OVERAGE FEES REGARDLESS OF USAGE.
Servers seem to start at $50 but by the time I get the ram up to at least 1GB, add on the 10mbit/s "unmetered" and get a reasonable hard drve of 160GB it is above $100. Other people are less.

    NetDepot-

They have a great box for $99 with 10 mbps unmetered, but I'm not paying a $300 setup fee. The "ye old" kind of scares me.

Not sure how you figure that...as I come up with $65 only with a Celeron D 3GHZ server for those specs (160GB HD + bandwidth upgrade), less for our P4 series, more for better CPUs, etc...

Also, our 10MBPS UNMETERED clientele report they get full 10Mbps capacity 24/7/365 from their experiences...regardless of our "UNMETERED DETAILS" disclaimer :-)

I recommend you take a look at BurstNET. I had two servers with them in the past and received a great service, I even had the 100Mbps Unmetered Shared with them and received the full 100Mbps no matter what time of the day.

If you are looking for under 100$ and unmetered you are going to get older stock from anyone.

All the boxes I have seen on this thread are 3 yrs plus

I am not sure what box you are referring to that is 99 with 300 but I could not find that - closest I saw on the netdepot site was an amdx2 that you can get for around 85 with a 130 setup with 10 mbps unmetered - can you please clarify?

I think the poster was referring to the tranxact line but like I said its no older than anyone elses stock of similar processor configs and all the hardware is maintained and serviced.

Well I do see now the page: https://www.burst.net/closeout.shtml which has some cheaper stuff.

But about the disclaimer if that is the case then you need to remove it from your page. When most hosts are being hardline about no refunds and I am reading about people left and right having to chargeback (with other companies) I am not going to take any chances, Sorry. I don't ignore TOS/AUP or disclaimers. I take them as gospel when it comes to my business.

    Good luck.

PS- this is what I was looking at before for the record:

    https://www.burst.net/servers.shtml

The two which are cheapest there are the celeron and the p4. But the specs list them as only having 512MB...so +$10 a month for the upgrade to 1 GB. (Actually I would probably go for 2GB so $25) Then +$10 for the 10 Mbs unmetered. Then another $10 for a bigger hard drive than the 60GB base drive.

I guess it would work and is under $100 but that bandwidth disclaimer. I'm not playing. It would be different if they said I might not get 9.5 Mbps every once in a while but that they would commit to upgrade it, but to flat out claim an average as low as 2 terabytes...I won't go there. I am going to definitely be using 7 Mbps+ and I don't want someone telling me "tough luck".

Question BurstNET - 10mbps dedicated bandwidth?

I currently have a server with FDC on a 10mbps feed. I hosted with BurstNET about 2 years ago and I had good service while I was there. I cancelled because the server was no longer needed.

BurstNET is large, established and well resourced provider, and I've always gotten what I paid for.

Both FDC, BurstNET and a few others have dedicated bandwidth 10mbps available, for additional cost. You get what you pay for.
