    Test Down/Up

    Is there anyway I can goto speedtest.net on a SSH linux box to test the down/up speed?

    Thanks.

    You need Flash 8 to run that test, so I'm guessing you won't be able to run it from ssh.

    Is there a collection of test files somewhere on this forum?

    From your VPS grab this file. wget http://cachefly.cachefly.net/10mb.test

    Then post a link to the same file on your VPS so we can all download it and post to you the speeds.

    Since you need Flash to visit speedtest.net I am assuming that you would need to download a GUI (either gnome or KDE) and install Firefox.

    Why not just use wget to download some bulk files. Most hosts provide bulk files for you to test speeds.

    You will first have to install a GUI (either gnome or KDE), firefox, and then install VNC. Then use a VNC client to connect to the VPS and open firefox.

    I don't see why not, but it's not worth it. It's a waste of RAM. Just wget a bunch of files to test the download speed.

    Too much problem just to test your speed. Use wget and download one of the test files that were postead above.

    You will get something like this:
    PHP Code:
    100%[=======================================>] 104,857,600 3.47M/s   in 31s

    18
    :54:34 (3.20 MB/s) - `100mb.test' saved [104857600/104857600]
    And if you want to test your upload, download that file from your server.
