    WHT loading slow. Anyone else?

I'm having issues loading sites within the SoftLayer Dallas DC including WHT. Is anyone else experiencing this issue?

It's loading fine for me here. I believe it is a local network issue at your end.

There is an issue with Level3 it appears at this time which is causing a lot of traffic to be dumped on RoadRunner which doesn't seem to be able to handle it.

    Here is a trace:

This is what SoftLayer had to say concerning the issue:
    Employee Response - 2009-Jul-07 14:14 (GMT-0500) [Update 2]
The issue is that the Michael Jackson funeral is the largest web event in history. This is causing sluggish response times everywhere.

The day Jerry Garcia died slowed down the entire Internet, too, but I'm surprised that sort of thing still happens in this day and age. Even if it is for Jacko.

Not all carriers are suffering - just some of them. As an example my Comcast conection is working beautifully over anywhere that I can stay on the Comcast backbone (never been proud to say I was on the Comcast backbone before).

Many of my customers as well as many other individuals that have web sites of their own are finding out that the internet itself is running very slowly today. When I contacted our datacenter that provides service for our servers here is the response that I received from the representative:

The issue is that the Michael Jackson funeral is the largest web event in history. This is causing sluggish response times everywhere.

We have had several clients submit tickets saying things such as “My site is loading slowly or not at all” and in my testing I have found that it is difficult to make connections across the country depending on what backbone your internet service provider is using. It seems that Level3 and RoadRunner are having some trouble with the amount of traffic being transferred across their backbones where as I am seeing beautiful performance out of the Comcast backbone myself.

Upon asking for further detail from our datacenter, SoftLayer, this is what the representative had to say:

We are getting reports of sluggish response from all locations. There is no point of origin. It is internet wide.

If you are browsing the internet right now and everything is running smoothly then you can consider yourself lucky. If you do run your own web site and you are having trouble connecting to it or you are receiving reports from your clients that your site is down there isn’t much you can do but tell them that the internet is extraordinarily congested due to the Michael Jackson funeral today and that we will all just have to wait this out.

There is also a thread that has been started by a user having issues with the internet over at the good old WebHostingTalk.com discussing that they are having issues connecting to WebHostingTalk.com where as other users are reporting no issues at all. There is no definite way to tell if you will or will not have problems and you may have problems visiting one site while not having problems connecting to another.

That's not the issue - the problem is that if you say - have RoadRunner as a provider and you try connecting to SoftLayer in Dallas you're going to see issues.

I have customers from Canada that are having issues as well - it's not just the outbound routing that is causing issues but the inbound routing as well.

Eh? The issue is with some backbone providers across the United States and will clear up as people quit downloading all of this Michael Jackson stuff - it has nothing to do with the server(s) or the datacenter that WHT is hosted at.

Well this shows times are not ready for heavy internet usage Imagine if all the mums hit the internet or the local yr6 classes were allowed to use the internet more often.

Was that the excuse they used when youtube came out?

This is exactly why if fiber was rolled out to every house that has broadband now - and they allowed 100megabit - we would all be in some serious trouble.

Just as slow as ever, WHT is the slowest loading site that I visit on a regular basis. It just takes way to long to load all the ad serving software, especially hostingcatalog.com. I now realize it's going to be this way forever so I have learned to live with it.
