It's a bit much for one person, isn't it?

How you would be able to manage yourself on all those screens, I dont know.

    Still, nice office!

That is pretty rad. With time and money I think I'd do something similar for a home office - though probably not as many servers in the "IT closet", it's gotta get hot up there!

    That's very inspiring.

I always thought I'd end up with a home/office like that when I ran my own company, and once I was in the position to do it I just never felt like it was the best use of funds. From reading the blurbs on his site it seems like he actually uses most of it. I ended up rolling my extra money into hiring more people instead.

As a programmer, I'd feel a bit strange if I was doing anything for a living that couldn't be done from any location on the planet with my laptop and Internet access. If I had to work from one spot I may as well be in charge of a factory.

Does seem a bit excessive - I don't think I could handle more than 4 monitors simultaneously myself - but there are numerous studies that have been done that show that multiple monitor configurations increase efficiency greatly, especially for programmers who can segment their work across multiple screens without having to hunt for and refer to code running beneath windows on a single screen. Rather than hunt they just look over, make changes, run the code on another screen, go back to the other screen and so on rather than hunting through windows.

Of course the time to drag your mouse to the other screens might be another matter altogether for a 2048x10,240 screen

    Wow I love that website
    http://www.deskography.org

I was looking some ideas on my office. I spend 100 hours a week in there so my ofice looks similar on someway cheaper of course.

That office really rocks but I would had spend more on the chair.

Monitor, keyboard, mouse, chair. Thats probably the things you have to invest more if you use the office allot. Lights are also very important but that he got it perfectly.

It's a very nice office. But its an office for like 3 people. Why have a snack bar? Having all of those monitors would I think be more overwhelming then anything. Still a kick ass office

On a side note I cant help but wonder all said and done how much that office cost him.

You know, I always wanted the kick butt office setup, with all the monitors and such. But now I work mainly on the laptop and the desktop only gets used for games. I'm designing our next house now and I may not even include an office. Yeah, shocking no doubt.

I think that's quite excessive, 3 monitors tops is plenty and nobody needs that much hardware in a home office. Still, it's a very professional setup.

If you read the blogs alot of them are software programmers and infact they need that in order to get there job done.

Sure and i did read the blogs, to be specific i was referring to this link: http://www.biscade.com/office/ that the op posted. That is 1 guy ...... no need for that many monitors/computers. Sure its great to be able to multi-task and not have to switch between tabs and all but that much hardware is just overkill and can't all be used at the one time by 1 person.

Anyone that says it is too many monitors isnt a programmer. When programming the worst thing is minimising and maximising screens it is much easier to swivel to another screen, add the piece of code in that section then go back knowing the screen you were first looking at will be up. It also makes cross referencing so much easier.

Having worked on an 8 screen system I would say this is probably best, beyond that number either the circle gets too wide or too tight around you.

Everyone likes a snack! Although im sure it doesnt always look that good and isnt always that well stocked!

    Nice Office.

Oh man this reminds me of an office this guy has in the building my mom has her office:

    http://www.biscade.com/office/

Except he has many huge monitors (way nicer than that link) all filled with stocks running... flat screen TV etc. It's all pimped out... he does stocks. I am so envious, you can tell he's doing real good with whatever he's doing. When I saw his office my jaw dropped.

That office probably didn't cost him more then $10,000.00, excluding the actual computers and what not. You can't really estimate that part, but I run 4 monitors (2 currently, three are in the mail).

I can see how this would be practical, would make my life a LOT easier when it came to web programming.
Not sure what to put here :-P

If my office was this spacious and nice, I would never have to leave my desk. The snack bar looks like those you see in hotel rooms too. Awesome office space!

I have always wanted a hotel room-type snack bar. Very cool detail.

    Need? No... Want? Yes!

I've been a programmer myself for over 15 years and I found that going from a single monitor to dual monitors more than doubled my productivity but I cannot say that adding a third would cause 3x as much productivity over a single monitor.

I'd say 3/4 monitors would be about the max that I would want to work with but I've come to a happy medium myself with 2 monitors.
