    install spamas

Hiya im following the guide here to install spamassassin but however have a few questions as im new to doing technical things in ssh.

On step 3 of the tutorial, we are asked to change things in the /etc/exim.conf file, what is the proper command to navigate to this file and how to replace those text?

The global spamassassin config file is in /etc/mail/spamassassin/

You'll want to make sure that you have the correct call to spamc in the spamcheck transport in your exim.conf:
    transport_filter = /usr/bin/spamc -u ${lookup{$domain}lsearch*{/etc/virtual/domainowners}{$value}}
For the lines i quoted, im not sure what i have to do here and how to do it.

Lastly how do i know if im installing latest version of spamas and how to test weather it is working against spam??

You need to use the vi or nano editor for this. See here for tips vi

Your exim.conf will be probably located under '/etc'.

So open this file using 'vi' as " vi /etc/exim.conf ".

Then in the file, locate the string "transport_filter".

You can check the latest Spamassassin using the cpan command:

cpan (hit enter) ; install cpan if it is missing:

cpan> install Mail"::"SpamAssassin ; remove the "" in the command.

It should get the latest SpamAssassin (3.2.5).

Alternatively you can download the latest SpamAssassin source from "

You would need to configure SA and then check the Spam score to verify its working.

You can also use mc (midnight commander). Just type:

    mcedit /etc/exim.conf

Use F7 to search throughout the '/etc/exim.conf' file, F2 to save the changes you will make at this file, etc ...

If mcedit is not installed on your server just type 'yum -y install mc' at your command line.
