    need ideas

    Hi WHTers!

I am appointed to do a lecture on web-hosting covering the topics below

    - Managing Web Hosting (CPanel)
    - Domain Management
    - FTP
    - Simple Web Creation

It's for a course to educate individuals on how to maintain a simple website.

However, I need ideas on what sort of smaller topics do I need to cover for all the 4 main topics?

Should I cover the different control panels involved/used in web-hosting for example, Plesk, CPanel?

Any form of input would be much appreciated. I am just taking charge of this module. The whole course would be covering social networking advertising and other media.

    Thanks in advance!

I don't think you would really need to. Maybe just the highlights.

Instead, I would focus on other things like where to get images, how to bring traffic to the site, and even how search engine rankings work in relation to these sites. Basically, I would keep everything at a high level by covering topics that are interesting, but avoid getting macro. People who are knew won't get it and will be uninterested in these things until they actually do them.

When explaining the basics to people for the first time, I've usually also had to explain what a domain name is really doing (mapping a human-friendly name to an IP address). It would probably help to explain to people how the root nameservers (from the registrar onward) even end up sending network traffic to your server.

I think it will be helpful if you first give them the types of hosting available..including Cloud Hosting

I would cover basics of the Internet and slowly move into buying a web hosting account and creating content. Good luck. Where are you lecturing?

It's a private center. Just starting out. However they are moving quite aggressively in educating the public on internet, webhosting, web designs, new media marketing methods.

So I was roped in to take on the module on web hosting management and domain and it's the first module of the course.
