High Quality Linux virtual servers with lots of Guaranteed RAM and HDD space, Impeccable Service.
Check "/etc/yum/yum.conf". This would have a variable called "Exclude =".
If "wget" is included in this variable, yum would not bother searching for it. So I guess you would have to check that first. I would recommend installing this using yum itself though, so that you can be assured of compatibility.
Although if the above said RPMs are the same, that would also do.
We grow by helping you grow.
there may be a few other ways also - if you use the above lynx method you can download the .rpm file for wget and use "rpm -i wget.rpm" where wget.rpm is the rpm of wget that you found on the internet somewhere.
(I used to use Red Hat before yum existed and this was how we had to install everything....
If you read on a lot of posts the CentOS wget is buggy.
For example anyone who wants to do a Fantasico/RVSkin install has to change their wget. There is nothing wrong with using the RPM's and as far as compatability goes wget is not a shared command as long as it works its unlikely you will see any problems. The only difference is it will not update with the other packages that are installed by yum. Again though. If it works and is not a security risk no reason to upgrade.
Completely up to you though.
