which one is better among these ?
hi,
please help me out to choose the right server, i will be hosting about 150 sites with high php + mysql interface,
the following servers are the ones that provide all that i need but with some positive and negative aspects.
so i want to ask you IF YOU HAVE TO BUY A SERVER AMONG THE FOLLOWING TWO THEN WHAT WILL YOU TAKE FOR HOSTING 150 SITES WITH LOTS OF TRAFFIC IN MIND
MY BUDGET IS BELOW $470/MONTH
----------------------------------------------------------
1st server,
DUAL XEON 5520 8 x 2.26GHZ + hyper-threading CPU
RAM 12GB DDR3
TOTAL SPACE: 750GB,[ 2*250GB HDD SATA + 250GB (MYSQL) ]
(TAKING NO RAID DUE TO COST +$50)
PORT UPLINK: 1000MB
BANDWIDTH: 10TB
BASIC HOST MANAGED +
TAKING SERVER MANAGEMENT: BY PSM
TOTAL COST: $440/MONTH APPROX
POSITIVE POINTS
- SUPER FAST SERVER
- BETTER RAM AND IN DDR3
- 10TB IN AND 10TB OUT
- VALUE FOR MONEY SERVER.
NEGATIVE POINTS:
- I WILL GET LESS SPACE.
- TAKING NO RAID, THOUGH ITS AVAILABLE.
- HAVE TO TAKE PRIVATE MANAGEMENT OF PSM.
..............................................
2nd server,
INTEL CORE 2 QUAD Q9550 2.83GHZ
RAM 8GB DDR2
TOTAL SPACE: 1500GB,[ 1000GB 7200 RPM SATA + 500GB (MYSQL) ]
(TAKING RAID 1)
PORT UPLINK: 1000MB
BANDWIDTH: 10TB
FULLY MANAGED BY HOST
TOTAL COST $460/MONTH APPROX
POSITIVE POINTS
- MORE SPACE +750GB
- SUFFICIENT RAM 8GB
- 10TB IN AND 10TB OUT
- TAKING RAID 1
- FULLY MANAGED BY THE HOST
NEGATIVE POINTS:
- OUTDATED SERVER NOT TOO POWERFUL IN COMPARISON TO THE OTHER.
- MORE EXPENSIVE THAN THE OTHER.
-------------------------------------------------------
ALL OTHER VIEWS ARE WELCOMED AND IF YOU KNOW ANY SERVER THAT CAN BEET THESE THEN PLEASE DO MENTION IT

First one is definitely better. Only problem is it does not have raid which can be a problem if you do a lot of writes on your database.

You will run out of disk I/O before you max out those CPUs. Try going for more and faster disks. In a system like #1, we would typically go for 8 x 146GB 10K RPM drives.

I will probably go for server 1.
You should also note that raid 1 can make a little slow so raid5 is better for your requirements.

I believe the first server is from 10TB.com? If yes, it should cost
$359 + $20 (2nd 250GB disk) + $50 (RAID) = $429
$429 + $29 (PSM) = $458
And 10TB.com does not offer 10TB in + 10TB out anymore, it is now 10TB out + Unmetered In.

server 1 is of 10tb.com and server 2 is from singlehop.com.
i want to know is it really important to have a RAID in a dedicated server when we are are taking server1 in our account.
as for server1 i won't opt for RAID.
............
some times i like server1 and some time i like server2 its so confusing thats why i asked you all !

Considering the specification you have posted and what you intend to use the servers for I would strongly advise you consider RAID and SAS drives over SATA as disk I/O will be your bottleneck and not the CPU and RAM.
We have seen this time and time again when clients don't factor disk I/O into performance and are forced to upgrade at a later stage.█ Coreix™ | your solution™ www.coreix.net - 08000226734 - ISO27001 Certified

I also selected server #1 although each would work fine.

I would try to avoid a reseller for my valued site because I think that it's best to be as close to the machine as possible. But that is a question of taste. Anyway, it is my reason to vote for Server #2.

Looking at the configurations my point will be for server 1, however you also need count on support options as that is not a fully managed server.
