    Air conditioner....

So today I bought an air cooler for £30 from Homebase, I didn't expect much from it but I swear the air it's blowing out is even hotter than the air going in..

Does anyone here have an air conditioning unit?

I'm looking at the ones on the homebase website and they're about £180 for the cheapest proper Air con, not air cooler. Wondering if they're worth it.

I believe homebase has an air conditioner for £100 on special offer, saw it on TV. I dont have any experience with it though.

Orr, just live through it. Apparantly this is only meant to last a week or so. A good fan and some icecream should bring you through it.

Yep there's one on sale for about £99 but remember you need to stick a pipe out your window, so make sure you have somewhere decent to put it. With your existing cooler, make sure you don't have the built in heater turned on

Haha it's cooling only, and I've gone through the troubleshooting guide etc

I'm gonna probably take a look at that £99 one, the pipe isnt an issue for me.

Can you put ice in yours? I got one from Homebase last year for about £70 and it has an ice box which the air passes over first of all (the UK version of 'air con').

It has a belt which moves round, it soaks up some of the water in the bottom and then that goes through the fan system. I've got ice in it but its still not coming out very cold.

Sounds pretty much like mine. If you get the offer from Homebase, let me know, be interested to hear some feedback before I get one (no, you go first!)

I'm not too sure about window units, but I know like your cars you need to make sure it has R134A refridgerant in it for it to cool the air. So could be possible you're running low on that?
    Nothing here right now.

That is referred to in North America as a humidifier. They are generally used in the winter season to add humidity to the air.

    Uses ice? What the

Ours works wonderfully. During a hot period, shortly after we put it in for the Summer, I had that baby down to like 16c, but over time and as we speak, I have it up to 23c now and it is fine to sleep with.

Doesn't hit my room at the end of the apartment though, so a fan, and open window does the trick.

Actually it's known as a swamp cooler... (evaporative cooler)
    http://images.google.com/images?hl=e...gbv=2&aq=f&oq=

    These are humidifiers..

Just keep in mind that evaporative coolers are extremely bad for electronics since they seriously increase the moisture in your home air. If you live in a humid area, you DONT want to use one as they will not be effective. They are for hot and dry regions.

    Just found this for you...
