    Server Monitoring?

    Hi,

I have a new reseller account, and wanted to monitor the uptime. How can I do this? What are the best solutions? Any free ones please?

    Thanks :-)

    I've used the following:

    Free:
http://www.nagios.org/ (a bit complex but lots of plugins)
    http://mmonit.com/monit/ (monitors metrics/processes)

    Paid:
    http://www.pingdom.com/

Pingdom is paid but pretty inexpensive. We've had a lot of luck with it for basic monitoring. We use an in-house system to monitor other metrics (load/space/logs/etc).

    I would reccomend www.hyperspin.com

Avoid www.siteuptime.com - We used to use them but ended up getting a lot of false positives / or they miss outages altogether.

Check with your upstream provider, they must have some monitoring tools in place which you can view as well.

    Otherwise I would recommend hyperspin.com

Nagios & Monit are good, we use them both

There is one thing I can tell you...don't use siteuptime.com, not a very reliable source at all.

It cost's money, but I would go with Pingdom.

There is none better than Nagios. It's flexible, reliable, and just plain works. If you want a somewhat simple frontend, use the Groundwork Community Edition.

Nagios might be great but he just has a reseller account. Where is he going to install nagios? I would recommend a service like httpvision.com or alertra.com.

If you have more than a couple servers, I'd definitely look into Nagios. It can't be beat for monitoring multiple servers, along with services like mail, apache, dns, etc.

If that reseller account is the only server you have, httpvision.com or pingdom.com should have everything you need.

Good luck with your new reseller account.

    Hyperspin.com
    (Paid & Free both)
Better to go with Paid one for extra features

I don't think Nagios is the way to go for OP as he seems like he is just looking for companies like Pingdom and Hyperspin to monitor his websites. Nagios requires a server with root access to install and is pretty complex.

We actually use PRTG ans Zennos for our server monitoring. Both are very reliable, customizable and accurate.

We use UptimeInspector for our server monitoring. We find UptimeInspector to be very reliable and accurate as well as very affordable.

You could install http://phpsysinfo.sourceforge.net/ which is free and you can see all the specs of the server

Well I've looked at hyperspin, and I am looking at binary canary. Its quite a lot cheaper than hyperspin if i'm reading it correctly...
