    need to get "locate" to work

    [email protected] [~]# locate
    -bash: locate: command not found

    I'm using CentOS

    What should I do to make it work?

    yum install mlocate
    David |

    thanks. done but with error

    [email protected] [~]# locate file
    locate: can not open `/var/lib/mlocate/mlocate.db': No such file or directory

    Run the command updatedb. It will build the index and then you can use locate to search files.

    The 'locate' only searches through a static index of files. You should add a cron to update this daily for it to be reliable. You can add this to the root cron file:

    0 0 * * * updatedb
